I recently made some flower crowns for a music festival that were so fun to wear. I got so many compliments! These are made with dried flowers that I hung to dry for a couple weeks. They can last years if kept out of the sun and in a cool, dry location when not wearing them.

I pulled my dahlia tubers out of storage and my dear friend and I worked on splitting the tubers so I can start pre-sprouting them before planting outside. Pre-sprouting gives them a head start giving us the opportunity to have dahlia blooms earlier in the season!
It always amazes me that this ugly potato looking root turns into the beautiful flowers we love!
A first this year: starting seeds indoors at home. Snapdragons are the first that I seeded a few weeks ago and they are looking good so far!
I’ve sown a few more things such as basil, gomphrena and celosia. I’m already running out of space and there’s more to sow. 😅

Since we received a frost, I’ve been working on storing all my plant material. Bulbs and corms have to be dug from the gardens and stored inside so they don’t freeze during winter. Here’s a picture of my gladiolus corms going into wood shavings for storage. The small orbs on the mother corm are all the baby cormels that can be propagated into new plants! 🌱
The season is slowly coming to a close, but flowers are still available until we get frost!

My work is far from over. The next few weeks will be a lot of prep work for the winter months; digging, cleaning and storing dahlia tubers and gladiolus corms, planting tulips and daffodils for the spring, composting, ordering new product for next year… The list goes on!

Sneak peak of planting tulip bulbs last fall! These bulbs are just now coming up in the garden. Yes, even with all the snow we just got! The snow is a great insulator and will provide much needed moisture to keep them going into spring weather.
