Photo / Video Production Assistant (paid)

Need some help with some shoots in August. No experience necessary, just someone a lot younger and stronger than me to help with gear, props, etc. Perfect for a teen/young adult looking to pick-up some cash. Any ideas?

It's that time of year. People ask if we're exaggerating when we say we're working 7 days a week - with some days as long as 16hrs. We have wonderful crews, lots of time prepping gear, arduous set-up/tear-downs and hundreds of hours in post production. That's just the photo shoots. Add to that the Northrop performances, U of M Commencement Ceremonies and other video events we're producing.

Nope. We're not exaggerating, and we're not complaining. We LOVE our clients and take great pride in the work we do in partnership with them. What's a few sleepless nights when you can create thousands of smiles - and images that last a lifetime!

As many of you know, we film a lot of work for Northrop's dance program. Very proud of this piece we filmed over a week featuring Limón Dance Company... interviewing Artistic Director Dante Puleiu plus UofM's President Gabel, Provost Croson and others.

We've supported Utepils since before they opened (did their first photo/video work)... so had a bit of fun with their Iron (6th) Anniversary. We created Iron Ewald and photographed hundreds of people with him yesterday!

Have had a wonderful dance season at Northrop with Dance Companies Martha Graham, Paul Taylor, Ragamala and many others. Not only did we enjoy filming the performances, but also meeting dancers and producers.

There are lots of great spaces for interviews, like Martha Graham Creative Director Janet Eilber seen here in the Northrop Foyer.

Had a little fun w/this assignment. Got a retouch request from someone who had a pic of her parents... but I got curious about the Grand Prize Beer they had at their picnic.

Turns out, Grand Prize was one of the top beers in Texas at the time (1951). Gulf Brewing Co. was opened in 1933 by Howard Hughes on the grounds of Hughes Tool company as a way to get people employed after the depression.

I researched and recreated the logo, so I could create a (fake) advertisement to put the parents picnic picture in. The family was thrilled.

We have many friends in the large Ukrainian community in the Twin Cities and our heart goes out to all who are suffering from the Russian aggression.

Here's a more peaceful memory... the MN based Cheremosh Dance Ensemble performing "The Weavers" at the Ukrainian Community Center in Minneapolis. (we filmed pre:pandemic)

Saturday we helped people celebrate Utepils Brewing's 5th Birthday with photos! We did the same thing for their Grand Opening... but had been working there months before the doors even opened to do their marketing photos.

Their birthday theme was Dragon Slayer, so we took their logos and created battle shields to use as props... because they were easily sanitized. Turned out great!

If we've been quiet, that doesn't mean we've not been busy. The last two years have been a complete re-tool of our business model, which was successful - but exhausting.

This year, things are starting to get back (we hope) to more normal. Case-in-point... a return to regular Northrop events. Last week we were filming with the Dance Theatre of Harlem.

Opening TONIGHT (Fri) 7pm @ Hopkins H.S. Theatre w/shows TOMORROW (Sat) at 2 & 7pm.

First time back on-stage photographing our friends at CREO Arts & Dance as they prepare for this weekend's performances of The Nativity. This wonderful production is a unique take on the familiar story, which would be enjoyable to adults and families. Of course, beautifully danced by CREO DanceVERVE: Twin Cities.

Fun inside look at our gear!

People wonder sometimes about cost involved in hiring a videographer or photographer. Not only are people paying for our time at the gig, there's a ton of prep and planning, not to mention post-production. We routinely go into the field with $50,000-75,000 worth of gear. Maintaining is expensive.

Our equipment tech sent us this photo when one of our cams went down. Very small item, big repair expense.

It's been a while since we've posted. Have been busy as ever. Our dance season wrapped with the American Ballet Theater hosted by the Northrop at the MN Landscape Arboretum. Several days of filming, including back stage access and rehearsals. Joel shot the new Canon C70 on a Ronan gimbal with Alex and Mia as our PA's for 6 camera set-up (including overnight timelapse). Weather was beautiful, as were the performances!
