Music Series: Letters to Jackie (Live Event Only)
Minnesota Tenor Ryan Townsend Strand is coming home to Minnesota for a major solo performance of original work. Strand will be performing Letters To Jackie at St. Mark's Episcopal Cathedral in Minneapolis on April 13. The performance features original compositions by Minnesota composers Libby Larson, Tim Takach and Erik Pearson along with 11 other big-time composers (several are Grammy Award winners). The project features songs with lyrics taken from condolence letters sent to Jackie Kennedy following JFK's assassination. There are many Minnesota ties including a couple of the letters selected by the Minnesota composers being penned by Minnesotans 60 years ago.

This is the first solo performance Strand has performed in Minnesota.

This performance is available on our website during the live performance only https://ourcathedral.org/livestream/

Please accept our apologie.Due to technical issues we are unable to broadcast the audio of this service.

The name Tenebrae, the Latin word for darkness or shadows, has for centuries been applied to the ancient monastic night and early morning services of the last three days of Holy Week which, in medieval times, came to be celebrated on the preceding evenings.

The most conspicuous feature of the service is the gradual extinguishing of candles until only a single candle, considered a symbol of our Lord, remains.

As this service is celebrated in darkness, this broadcast is audio only. Please feel free to follow along with the bulletin.https://ourcathedral.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/A-Service-of-Tenebrae-3.27.24.pdf

A Saint Mark's Music Series Concert
The Compass Rose Brass Ensemble was formed in 2011 and consists of ten professional brass musicians from the Twin Cities area. The inspiration of this group can be traced back to the Philip Jones Brass Ensemble, a London-based group of top brass professionals that earned tremendous notoriety during the latter half of the twentieth century. Their repertoire includes both original and transcribed works for brass in classical and jazz styles. Their 2013 CD includes a world premiere recording of Joseph Turrin’s The Fir Tree, based on the literary fairy tale by Hans Christian Andersen. More recently they have been publishing video recordings of much of their repertoire to their Youtube channel. The mission of the Compass Rose Brass Ensemble is to create brass performances of the highest level to diverse audiences throughout Minnesota and beyond.
