It’s not everyday you get to be in a kitchen with some of the finest chefs, bakers, and cocktail makers this little Midwestern town has ever turned out. It’s no surprise that their friendship follows in the footsteps of their talent and it was an absolute awe inspiring evening of kinship and curation. Good people making good food for a good cause, it doesn’t get any better than that. Happy to be able to share in the moment.

"Although we have not attended a lot of weddings recently, my lingering impression of the wedding photographer is of someone who thinks it is his/her job to get in the way of everything (and everybody) to get the perfect shot of the wedding. You are the definitive example of the opposite--looking for an opportunity to capture what the moment gives you, without intruding on the moment. You have a gift for being able to "see" a feeling, not just the people in the frame. The few of your pictures on Instagram make us look forward to seeing more. "-Father of the Groom

Receiving an email like this was the perfect way to start the week and has made a lasting impression on me.

Studio 125 Mpls

I am excited to announce that I officially my own office and shooting space for my photography! BLK WLF and Brandon Werth weddings have teamed up with Bridget Borden Events and Wit & Delight and created Studio 125 Mpls. Need a place to shoot? Need a space for a grooms dinner or a company party? The studio has 6,000 sq ft, south facing windows, a kitchenette and a full kitchen... plenty of well designed space for you to create something big or small. Bonus, we are located on the ground level and the loading docks back up to our studio, making load in and out, easy!

A few simple camera tricks and a bag full of unconventional light sources is typically how I roll. For the last four years I've tried and challenged myself to make a portrait that doesn't fit the stereotypical kissing/cuddling shot. I definitely still shoot those and love those but you have to carve time out in your day to make something new. Excited about the direction things have been going this year and all the couples who have trusted me to make something unique for them. If you're interested in learning or being challenged creatively I have a workshop coming up in a few weeks.

Some days you're in a field with couples wearing flannel and other days you are in moody urban spaces with chic undertones. I absolutely love diversity and it has been extremely plentiful lately, it keeps my mind fresh and allows me to play around more with ideas I typically have on the back burner.

I tend to be pretty quiet about stuff I'm working on or have worked on. Some stuff just doesn't equate to intrinsic value when dispersed amongst this social sphere, when the true spirit of the work is sufficient enough. Between the four kids, the day to day activities, and the daily fight against anxiety and life, the last thing I want to do is go on here and tell people what I'm up to. I'm breaking silence this week and sharing some stuff from the past month. I'm really excited about this portrait of someone who I think many of us can agree has given us the strength to not respond to "How are you doing?" with "good", someone who bathes sorrow with laughter and continues to bring humanities humble differences closer to acceptance and love for one another. A writer's work is never finished and its also never easy, this photo to me captures that chaos and also represents the corresponding answer to the suffering of creation and existence; which is and always will be: humor. This is a 20 image composite of taken a few weeks ago at the studio. When in doubt, throw paper around.

Today was one for the books. To me there is nothing more important than clients trusting you to find things that are beautiful. Happy and content with the start of wedding season so far and I am so excited for every single adventure ahead. This is my first time testing out the Mark IV on camera wifi. Pretty frickin stoked to have a moment during the reception to test it out. ❤️mike

This weekend was beyond exhausting but also incredibly fulfilling; between the two weddings, rehearsal dinner coverage, and an engagement session I am feeling like I've been spread about as thin as possible but then my three year old daughter asked me to do puzzles with her tonight way past her bedtime and I couldn't possibly say no, and just like that all tiredness and fatigue dissipated. If there is anything the last few weeks have taught me, it's to stop and soak the fleeting moments that are in abundance at every turn. Whether it be light, love, or a lingering desire to locate and ignite our intuitions, the fact of the matter is: nothing intangible that happened yesterday has to be permanent today, that's why to me these photos I take for a living become so meaningful, I feel and sense a moment in the future where someday these photographs will have precedence and purpose long after I have left this planet. That notion alone, although there are a million others, gives me the gift to not fatigue, even when the weekend leaves little room for even sleep. Took this on Friday evening at one of my favorite venues, in my favorite light and for a split second carrying around a big piece of glass all day seemed worth it.

THE WERTHSHOP 2017

"The Werthshop at it’s core, is a destabilization device for wedding photographers who have built the foundation of how they shoot on the backbone of a shared commonality. To become better at what we do we must first deconstruct the idea of normalcy."
