Bright, crunchy coleslaw
Russet and red potatoes
Butternut squash
Vibrant red beets
Colorful radishes

This winter we will accept bids from farmers who wish to grow specific fruit and veggie crops for MPS school meals. MPS actively seeks to purchase produce, grains, beans, and proteins from small-scale, sustainable farms, including those operated by new and emerging farmers. If you would like to learn more, please join us for an information meeting and lunch on Tuesday, December 12, at the MPS Central Kitchen in North Minneapolis. This week, we held the first of our monthly Central Kitchen Tours. Attendees included a mix of caregivers, MPS staff, Interim Superintendent Cox, and community partners. They learned about the central kitchen's history, our approach to scratch cooking, and how we use ingredients from local farms on our menu. A 400-gallon kettle filled with sauce and a deep freezer the length of a football field were among the many things we were able to see.

Are you curious about our True Food approach, nutrition philosophy, and commitment to serving locally sourced foods? Sign up for a tour! **Space is limited**

On Wednesday (11/15) students at participating FFVP schools have the chance to try a unique fruit – finger limes! This is a small, elongated fruit with tiny round vessels of tart juice inside. Snap them open and squeeze to make the “caviar” pop out!

The Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program (FFVP) is a federal grant program that provides a sampling of fresh fruits or vegetables in the classroom to students in grades preK-5 at qualifying schools. It’s a great way to get students excited about trying new fruits and vegetables.

Thank you EVERYONE for making the Let’s Roll MPS a huge success. More than 200 students, staff, families, and community members took to the streets – to celebrate bicycle efforts in our district, the beauty of Minneapolis and the JOY in our connections to one another. Joy was everywhere you turned at this event.

An enormous thank you

to all the volunteers who made it safe and fun for all, including AMAZING students from the Girls Swim Team at Roosevelt High School and South High School and students from Washburn High School;
to all the awesome families, community members and staff who joined the event;
and to the schools who were the STARS of the event - Sullivan STEAM School, Anishinabe Academy, Bancroft Elementary School, Emerson Dual Language School, Lyndale Community School, Pillsbury School, Seward Bike Sharks,Transition Plus, Whittier International Elementary School and more!

And it isn’t a true party without True Food – so we shared a fantastic meal at the end of the ride – with the very same recipes and quality ingredients we serve in our schools. Mark your calendars for the next one! https://cws.mpls.k12.mn.us/let_s_roll_mps

Update: Big Blue has been found on a residential street in Minneapolis. All of its contents are intact. Hooray! Thank you to those who shared our post which led to all the tips! We are feeling very grateful for all of you and for the people in MPS who work behind the scenes – often unrecognized - who are an important part of bringing life-impacting education and experience to kids.

Thank you to EMSS who fielded your tips and worked with Transportation to bring Big Blue home this very night.

Thank you to MPS Trades who applied the graphics that frustrated the would-be thieves. Photo added where you can see the thieves had tried to remove the excellent work of MPS – and eventually gave up. The jumping kid of CWS may have lost his feet – but we are not defeated – thanks to you all.

Outdated post - ALERT: Please be on the look out for our stolen bike trailer! “Big Blue” was taken from the Bancroft Elementary School parking lot in the early hours of the morning on Thursday, October 12. It is a 24' trailer in a beautiful blue color with white graphics.

We use the trailer for bike education in Minneapolis Public Schools - and many kids and schools benefit from this program. Please spread the word and help us get it home.

The final photos show the very first students to use the bicycles in the trailer in 2019 and what we hope won’t be the very las

The Let's Roll MPS is a free, slow-paced group bicycle ride that celebrates bicycle efforts in our school district, the beauty of Minneapolis and the joy in our connections to each other. Hop on your bike and join bikers from Sullivan STEAM School, Anishinabe Academy, Bancroft, Emerson, Lyndale, Pillsbury, Roosevelt, Seward, South, Transition Plus, Washburn, Whittier and more. Non-biking "cheerers" welcome too!

The ride starts and ends at the Sullivan STEAM Magnet School and Anishinabe Academy playground, 3100 East 28th Street Minneapolis. Details at https://cws.mpls.k12.mn.us/let_s_roll_mps.

This week's secondary menus include the debut of the MPS Nori Burger. This award-winning meatless patty is made from chick peas and ocean-farmed kelp (seaweed). Sea kelp cleans the ocean, helps to restore marine ecosystems, requires no pesticides, and takes no land to produce. And it's on your lunch tray right here in Minneapolis Public Schools where we're committed to sourcing and serving sustainable plant-based options.

Celebrate Walk & Roll to School Day on Wednesday, October 4th! More than thirty MPS schools have signed up to join thousands of schools across the nation to celebrate the joys and reap the benefits of walking and rolling to school. When more people walk and roll instead of driving, neighborhood streets become safer and more welcoming for everyone. The exercise we get from walking and rolling has benefits too—including improved focus, cognition, and mental health. Schools are celebrating on October 4 or on whatever day they chose.

When students arrive at school on Wednesday, they will find Country View Dairy yogurt on all our breakfast menus for a doubly great start to the day. Whether your school has signed up or not, plan on joining the movement by walking or rolling on October 4th—to school or to somewhere else.

09/29/2023

Still haven’t completed your Application for Educational Benefits (AEB) for the 2023-24 school year? Watch your mailbox for the green envelope and a paper form. Paper applications can be handed in at your school or mailed using the enclosed return envelope. For the fastest processing, visit https://cws.mpls.k12.mn.us/application to complete an on-line application using the new LINQ Connect platform.

ALL families are asked to complete an application every school year – even if they do not plan to use benefits or believe that they qualify. Information collected from the AEB is used to determine millions of dollars in funding for Minneapolis Public Schools, and more families completing the AEB could result in significant increases in resources for the district and our schools, students, and families. This continues to be true as we implement the Free School Meals for Kids Law.

Student ID numbers can be found in Campus Portal. For additional support in completing the Application for Educational Benefits contact the secretary at your student’s school or email [email protected].
