Cheers to 20 years of caring for the community! 🫶

Within ten days of the pandemic shut-down, our then executive chef Liz Mullen and team had partnered up with Second Harvest Heartland to found Minnesota Central Kitchen, (now known as Kitchen Coalition).

Kitchen Coalition is a statewide initiative to rescue food from closing restaurants, offer jobs to chefs, and prepare meals for neighbors in need, whose numbers increased dramatically during the COVID-19 crisis.

With Jose Andrès’ World Central Kitchen as its inspiration, Kitchen Coalition has now served over 6,000,000 meals and is still a part of Chowgirls' daily operations.

Meghan Larsen, our Director of Hospitality & Sales is at the heart of what makes us Chowgirls. When Meghan first came to us as an intern from the UW-Stout hospitality program in 2010, she also brought years of experience as a server and freelance caterer.

Nearly 15 years later, she guides our sales and hospitality teams to surprise and delight clients, guests, and the community using the very ideals she helped us design and grow in the first place. Meghan embodies Chowgirls’ values – throughout the years her kindness and integrity have seeped into all we do, and we are all better for it!

🥂 We celebrated 20 amazing years in business! — Complete with a special collab beer with Wild Mind Ales, “Serendipitous” Chowgirls Roaring 20th Chamomile Saison.

🥕 Relaunched By-the-Box with branded packaging, with the Mezze Box as a top seller.

🏆 Honored with 4 awards, including Minnesota Bride’s Best Small Caterer.

🍴Catered 1,030 events, served 74,285 guests, including 72 weddings

🚚 305 Uhauls rented to support our uproar of events

📈Gained 724 new Instagram followers and shared 140 posts and 500 stories.

🍪Chowgirls Concessions opened for 430 Guthrie Theater performances and sold 9,600 Brown Butter Chocolate Chunk cookies!

💛 We also gave back in a big way:
13,000+ meals made for Kitchen Coalition neighbors in need
Sponsored 12 events and donated to 35 organizations

In lieu of a 2019 Chowgirls 15th Anniversary party, our founders opted to wait a year and host a Sweet-Sixteen soirèe the following year — on March 12, 2020. Following suit of other events in the news, we officially canceled the 400-person event.

But, because we’d already prepared the food and staged our venue at the Solar Arts Building, we switched gears to an extremely elaborate (LOL) staff party and photo shoot for those who were comfortable with one last social event.

Our event partners like the Red Rocks Swing Band, Blommonster Floral, and fashion portrait artist Claire Ward showed up to enjoy one last hurrah before the pandemic shut down, the next day – Friday, March 13! In this case … hind-sight was NOT 2020! 😂

Cheers to 20 years! 🥂⁠

A major milestone in Chowgirls’ growth came in the winter of 2018 when Minneapolis hosted “the big game” in the then-new U.S. Bank Stadium. 🏈✨️

To prepare, we bulked up our staff, wares, equipment, and marketing initiatives, and honed every skill we had to shape celebration experiences with some pretty high-profile clients including NBC, the NFL team owners, Land O’ Lakes, Tiffany, and others.

This Minneapolis-based organization started as a small non-profit gardening program and has grown into a 30-acre farm in Hugo with a mission of restoring health and well-being in the Native community by recovering knowledge of and access to healthy Indigenous foods, medicines, and lifeways.

Many Thanksgiving dishes we know and love feature ingredients native to the Americas, such as squash, pumpkins, corn, potatoes, sweet potatoes, maple syrup, cranberries, and pecans.

This year, we’re donating a portion of all Thanksgiving sales to Dream of Wild Health, whose mission is to revitalize health and well-being within Native communities by restoring access to traditional Indigenous foods, medicines, and cultural knowledge.
