Lydia and Tyler tied the knot at The Essence Event Center on a picture-perfect October day. For anyone in a relationship with a partner in a different…well…”ecosystem,” you’ll understand just how significant Tyler and Lydia’s presents to each other were. Tyler not only gifted Lydia an Apple product, he also gracefully accepted Lydia’s present (an iPhone). Yep, that’s true love folks.

The morning was full of fun, starting with our meeting Lydia’s mom, who was walking around with “tiny hand” props for reasons we did not understand, waving us into the room. Down the hall, the groomsmen had a bar in their room along with many games of chance. Given their excitement, I assume they were playing a casino type game, but it might’ve been high-stakes yahtzee.

Lydia and Tyler’s heartfelt vows left not a dry eye in the house, and we felt privileged to capture such raw emotion. With everything going on during a wedding, I think it’s sometimes hard for people to stay in the moment, but Lydia and Tyler were so clearly present.

At the end of the night, a wild dance party ensued and everyone danced their tails off. Lydia and Tyler, thank you for having us there to capture your special day. Congratulations!

Recently, we had the privilege of documenting the wedding of Lexi and Ben at the enchanting Fields Reserve venue. In his speech, the best man painted my favorite picture of the night when he said:

“Ben is motivated and driven. So driven that he drove all the way from Iowa City from Huston to follow the love of his life. I like to imagine Ben driving down the highway in the middle of the night in a two door rusty pickup; I think, one eye closed shut from allergies, like he’s a love pirate.”

Lexi’s maid of honor had this to say about her: “Lexi has always been the responsible one. She’s very stable, she works out regularly, she excels in her career, she flosses.” (Followed much knowing laughter.) “She is also a master of clear, direct communication. She and Ben made long distance work because they saw their future together.”

Seeing them together among their friends and family, their connection was so clear. Ben’s best man also talked about how they would sit together for hours on the phone, whether silent or speaking, just so they could learn more about each other’s daily life while they lived in separate cities.

Ben and Lexi, congratulations and we’re so happy you wanted us there to capture all the joy of your day!

When your engagement session starts and ends at your campsite...

These two chose Bunker Hills as their location and we were ecstatic!

We camped at site 16 last year and I remember seeing so many spots that I would love to take photos someday - as fate would have it, site 16 was available and we were able to take Panny and Brian on our dream walk!

As photographers, one of the most rewarding experiences is being able to capture photos that will still be meaningful for decades. Recently, we had the pleasure of photographing Ari and Matt’s engagement session in the charming town of Stillwater, and it was truly gorgeous. From the breathtaking sunset to the sentimental locations, every moment was filled with significance and beauty.

Ari, with her impeccable taste, had chosen Stillwater as the backdrop for their engagement photos due to its charm and timeless beauty. But little did she know just how serendipitous this choice would turn out to be. During our car ride from downtown to the park, Matt reminded her it was actually where they met up for their first date.

RIght now, that first date might feel like a distant memory for them; so much has happened in their relationship and they’re about to get married. But I like to think that someday, when they’ve been married for years, they’ll look back on these photos and strongly remember their first meeting, the first meal they shared, and the first jokes they laughed at.

Our journey began at the iconic Hotel Crosby, a place that held a special significance for Ari and Matt’s family. The elegant architecture and classic ambiance created an exquisite backdrop. As we sat at the window table taking in our surroundings, Ari and Matt looked right at home with the familiar sights, lending an air of nostalgia and romance to the images. During the session, we took a little extra care to capture the intricate details of Ari’s engagement ring. Matt had designed it as a surprise, blending both their birthstones into a unique, asymmetrical design.

As the golden hour approached, we made our way to a scenic spot outside the city. The sky transformed into a breathtaking canvas, painted with hues of red, pink, and purple. It was the perfect setting for Ari and Matt. We even had a little fun with a silhouette that turned out strongly reminiscent of a Gone with Wind that ended happily in a field in Minnesota.

Ari and Matt, thanks for coming out with us to enjoy the sunset, and thanks for braving tick season in tall grass. You chose such a beautiful backdrop for your session and when you look back on these photos, I hope they intertwine the place and memories they represent.

There’s something magical about ringing in the new year with a celebration of love and an awesome party, and that’s exactly what Hannah and Dave did on their wedding day. The snow-covered streets of Minneapolis provided a picturesque backdrop for their wedding at The Whim, a charming and intimate venue that perfectly complemented the couple’s style.

But it wasn’t just the setting that made Hannah and Dave’s wedding so special. From their heartfelt vows to their thoughtful details, every aspect of their day was infused with love and personality.

As they stood in front of their friends and family, Hannah and Dave exchanged vows that were as sweet and genuine as they were. Their heartfelt vows moved everyone in attendance, as they promised to support, cherish, and grow together in their marriage.

After the ceremony, the newlyweds stepped outside to share a small celebration, popping a bottle of champagne and sharing a sip. It was a beautiful (if slightly chilly) moment that allowed them to soak in the joy of the day before rejoining their guests for cocktail hour.

During this time, we had the opportunity to interview guests “man on the street” style, in homage to Hannah’s career as a reporter. It was a fun and unique way to capture the excitement and energy of the celebration, and guests were more than happy to share their well wishes for the happy couple.

As the night went on, Hannah and Dave’s wedding proved to be a celebration like no other. The dance floor was packed, the food was delicious, and the love and laughter were palpable. When the clock struck midnight, the happy couple shared a kiss surrounded by their close friends and family.

Hannah and Dave, we wish you all the best as you begin this new chapter of your lives together – Congratulations!
