The incredibly fascinating Co**se Flower is about to bloom!

The stinky giant Amorphophallys Titanum gets it's nickname 'Co**se Flower' from the smell of rotting flesh it emits when it blooms.

The repulsive odor is caused by sulfur-based compounds known as dimethyl trisulfide (which is also produced when cooking onions & leeks).
The Co**se Flower even increases it's temperature to get extra stinky in order to attract flies & carrion beetles to help in propagation.

This incredible plant has a lifespan of around 30-40 years but blooms very rarely, with an average of only once every 7-10 years, & only for 1-3 days!

Any moment now, the Co**se Flower will bloom at the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens giving New Yorkers another rare opportunity to go see this smelly titan in person.

Would you be brave enough to have one in your garden??

Introducing Spathiphyllum, commonly known as the Peace Lily.

These beautiful perennial plants with their white & yellow flowers symbolize Peace (naturally), but also hope, purity, sympathy, & healing.

Originating from the tropical forests of South America, the Peace Lily was first introduced to Europe around 1870.

Due to their popularity over the years, they have been heavily hybridized, resulting in dozens of varieties which range in size from small to massive.
A few examples include;
â€Ē 'Power Petite' - a small variety that grows up to about 15in.
â€Ē 'Sensation' - largest Peace Lily variety, growing up to 6ft tall.
â€Ē 'Kochii' - known for it's glossy dark leaves Introducing Spathiphyllum, commonly known as the Peace Lily.

The Peace Lily is a relatively easy plant to care for. It was also identified by the NASA Clean Air Study as an efficient plant in removing pollutants from the air, including formaldehyde, benzene, & ammonia.

Peace Lily Care Basics:

Planting - When growing indoors they can be purchased anytime of year but should be protected from cold temperatures during transport.

A Terra cotta or clay vessel are ideal for the Peace Lily. Although they like to be somewhat root-bound, once they have outgrown their pots, it's best to replant them in Spring.

Lighting - Peace Lilies prefer bright indirect light.

Soil - Rich loose potting mix with plenty of organic matter to mimic the decomposing rainforest floor is best for Peace Lilies. Sensitive to damp soil, they prefer a well-draining mix.

Water - Underwatered vs overly watered. (It's best to bottom water rather than top as the leaves can develop black spots.

Temperature & Humidity - Ideal temp. is 65°- 80°F. Avoid temperatures under 55°F as Peace Lilies can die from prolonged cold.

Fertilizer - Fertilize weekly in Summer.

Blooming - Providing Peace Lilies with ideal growing conditions; humidity, diffused light, & fertilizer, will help encourage blooming. Problems can arise if their environment isn't quite right.

Peace Lilies bloom in Spring, around April but with proper care, they may bloom twice a year, once in Spring & in Fall.
Peace Lilies can live to be over 20 years old.

** Peace Lilies are toxic to cats, dogs, & humans.
