If you're looking for cosmic summer fun, check out the Symphony in the Cities and Prelude in the Park event on Saturday, August 3.

This signature event, which features the Pacific Symphony, is from 4 to 8:30 pm at 24932 Veterans Way.

The night kicks off with the Prelude from 4 to 7 pm featuring energizing live music by the ‘80s band Radio Royalty. The 6-piece band prides themselves on being the only female-fronted ‘80s band in Southern California with three female lead singers. Their live pop music will get you up and dancing for a stellar good time.

The Prelude also includes an array of galactic activities and delectable fare from food trucks.

Enjoy a concert on Tuesday evening on the orchard terrace featuring Sierra.

The fun takes place from 4:30 to 6:30 pm at the Norman P. Murray Center, 24932 Veterans Way.

Sierra plays a mix of popular favorite hits that will get you dancing!

Beer and wine will be available for purchase from the Mission Viejo Rotary Club as well as snacks from the Senior Leadership Committee. Cash is preferred. Doors open at 3:30 pm. Outside beverages are not allowed. Please leave your pets at home.

A vibrant new exhibit is on display at the Norman P. Murray Community and Senior Center in honor of Mental Health Awareness Month.

Presented by the Council on Aging - Southern California, "My Colors. My Mind" features paintings and drawings created by students in art therapy classes for senior citizens. In partnership with the OC Health Care Agency, the Council on Aging provides no-cost classes that encourage older adults to explore emotions, reduce stress and anxiety, improve self-esteem, and build awareness to reduce stigma surrounding overall mental health. The artwork on display includes landscapes, still life, and collaborative abstract pieces that express the artists' vision, experiences, and stories.

"My Colors. My Mind" will run through early June.

Don't miss another art exhibit on the theme of mental health awareness, "The Art of Well-being," which runs through May 31 at the Potocki Center for the Arts.

The summer edition of Mission Viejo Life is now online – offering information about summer camps, an array of classes for all ages, and special events spanning the next few months.

Inside the pages are details about exciting summer events including the Fourth of July Street Faire, Concerts on the Green, Symphony in the Cities, Cardboard Boat Derby and much more.

Mission Viejo Life features information about resources for seniors; library events; and pickleball, recreation and fitness activities as well as classes for the young and young at heart. Registration for summer camps is now open, with registration for all other programs beginning at 8 am on May 1.

The Friends of the Mission Viejo Library are seeking donations of new or gently used handbags of all types to prepare for its annual Purse Palooza handbag sale.

Collection boxes for donations are located at the library, Norman P. Murray Community Center, Sierra Recreation and Fitness Center, Marguerite Tennis Pavilion, and St. Kilian’s Catholic Church. Handbag donations will be accepted through Friday, May 3.

And shoppers, mark your calendars: This year’s sale is from 10 am to 2 pm on Saturday, May 4 at the Norman P. Murray Community Center. 👜🛒🎉

Get ready for a beautiful candlelight concert on Wednesday, April 17 when string musicians from Pacific Symphony perform classical selections in the acoustically rich Jeronimo Tunnel.

Taking place from 7 to 8 pm, the concert is part of “Subterranean Soundscapes,” a free event series featuring live music and entertainment that gives folks the chance to experience the Oso Creek Trail in a whole new way.

The concert is open to all ages, and no registration is required. Beverages and light refreshments will be available for purchase. Audience chairs will be provided, and an ADA-accessible portable restroom will be available onsite.

The Jeronimo Tunnel is located near the intersection of Jeronimo and Arbolitos.

Street parking is reserved on Jeronimo near the tunnel. Patrons are also welcome to embrace the unique setting of the tunnel by strolling along the Oso Creek Trail to the venue. Park conveniently at any of the nearby access points to the trail and wander under the stars, soak up the natural vibes, and join us for an unforgettable night of music.

Last Saturday, the Norman P. Murray Community and Senior Center hosted the Age of Elegance Ms. Senior California Beauty Pageant. Six senior women aged 60 and older competed for the coveted title of Ms. Senior California. The contestants were judged on their interview, philosophy of life, evening attire and talent. Liz Palmer, a California native who resides in Rancho Mirage, took the title and will represent California as she competes in the fall for Ms. Senior America in Atlantic City. She is the former State Executive Director for the National Senior Games and current Regional Vice-Chair, a marvelous pianist, and currently holds the age group record in the 60-meter hurdles for women older than 50.

The City is inviting residents to share their treasured recipes for the Mission Viejo Community Cookbook.

Set for publication this summer, the cookbook will include one recipe and brief personal narrative from each contributor. Selected participants will have their dishes professionally photographed and included in an exhibit at the Norman P. Murray Community and Senior Center.

Recipe submissions will be accepted through March 31. Selections are based on recipe type, culinary merit, and cultural heritage significance.

The City is asking Mission Viejo voters to participate in an important survey that addresses issues that affect the quality of life in our community – including the quality of services provided by the City.

To ensure the anonymity and reliability of the survey results, the City has contracted with True North Research and Dynata to conduct the survey, manage interviews and summarize the results. You may have already received a call, text or email with the link to participate. Your responses to the survey will be completely confidential, and the City will not be privy to individual survey responses.
