📣 EVENT UPDATE: 📣

Storytellers & Legends Convention is dedicated to providing an unprecedented family-friendly education oriented experience as the Rio Grande Valley's first literary pop culture experience, and we are excited to provide an innovative convention emphasizing literature and education, with safety at the forefront of all we do.

Taking many factors into consideration, Storytellers & Legends Convention announces that we will have our inaugural show April 3-5, 2023, as a 3-day event showcasing authors, composers, film producers, illustrators, voice actors, and more literary guests.

Our show schedule will be Monday, April 3rd - Wednesday, April 5th, with daytime hours being dedicated to our Rio Grande Valley students, who will attend the event, meet our special guests, and experience the RGV's first literary pop-culture convention.

After hours showtimes (3:30pm-7pm) will be available for the public to attend Monday, April 3rd - Wednesday, April 5th, and we are excited to show our innovative programming and guests we have in store.

We thank the City of Mission and the Mission Event Center for their continued support, and we thank you for your support and enthusiasm in making this event a truly special literary pop-culture experience for the Rio Grande Valley and beyond.

Andrea Gutierrez Price is a third-generation Tejana, bruja, and former elementary school teacher based in Austin, Texas. Inspired by her ancestors, her children, and her own spiritual practice, she was guided to write her first children’s book on Mexican-American folk magic, Casita Brujita.

Rhonda Brown shares a few words about herself, "I am Rhonda Yvette Brown, I’m a native of San Antonio, I’m also a proud wife and mother of two adult children. I attended Angelo State University graduating with an Associates of Science Nursing Degree, then graduated from Wayland Baptist University with a Bachelor of Christian Ministry Degree, followed by completion of graduate work and receipt of a Master of Education in Curriculum Instruction from Concordia University. It is my life's work and my desire that every child be affirmed and equipped with the awareness and deep knowing that they are created for greatness, walking out their special destiny in life and living well. In August of 2020 I took a leap of faith and channeled my passion into the launch of my first children’s book titled "Creation That’s Me" -- a book affirming that we are all great by design, highlighting diversity as a strength, not a hinderance. It is my hope that we continue to band together during these unique times to amplify the light in every child we encounter. I see this embodied in one of my favorite quotes from Dr. Maya Angelou, “I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel." -- This is the mantra I live by as I continue to produce and publish children’s books."

📣 GUEST ANNOUNCEMENT! 📣 We read on to announce that James William Peercy, author of "Cliff Fulton" mystery series, "Xun Ove," fantasy series, "Clan Ravensmith" series, and more will be attending Storytellers & Legends Convention happening April 3-7, 2023! 📚🎊

James William Peercy fell through a portal into the publishing biosphere in
2012. Previously, he had observed and recorded his own world since the
age of 10. James continued to write while attaining a degree in Computer
Science, getting married, raising dogs, and starting a business. Since all worlds simultaneously exist, he has written five book series: the Cliff Fulton mystery series, the Xun Ove fantasy series, the Clan Ravensmith series, Ivan, Universal Space Tech series and the Pieces of Mankind series. For those that like poetry, check out Within the Heart of Silence, a gold medal award winner that uses pictures and words to show the beauty of life in ordinary things. With a constantly moving mind, he devotes his downtime to writing, traveling, playing with his godson’s Olen and Wulfgang and adoring his wife, Claudette. Books have been Kendra's escape for as long as she can remember. She
used to hide fantasy novels behind her government textbook in high
school, and she wrote most of her first novel during a semester of
college algebra. Older and wiser now (but just as nerdy) she writes fantasy and science fiction with characters who have disabilities. If she's not writing,
she's reading, and if she's not reading, she's playing video games. She is the award-winning author of the Mark of the Least series, the Mishap's Heroes series, and she is a contributor in the Eldros Legacy series. Kendra lives in Denver with her very tall spouse, their book loving progeny, and a lazy black monster masquerading as a service dog.

Patty York Raymond is a Multi-Award Winning Author and a native Texan. Her children’s book, It’s Too Windy! was honored with the International Latino Book Award for 2016 and 2017. The ABCs to Ranching, was awarded Best Children’s Interactive Book by The Texas Authors Association in 2018. It was also honored with two International Latino Book Awards in the Best Educational Children’s Picture Book and Best Gift Set categories also for the year 2018. Her most recent children's picture book Aspire!/¡Aspirar! is a flip over book in English and Spanish. It was honored with The International Book Finalist Award for 2021 for the Mind/Body/Spirit category. Award-winning author, Linnea Tanner, weaves Celtic tales of love, magical adventure, and political intrigue in Ancient Rome and Britannia. Since childhood, she has passionately read about ancient civilizations and mythology. Of particular interest are the enigmatic Celts, who were reputed as fierce warriors and mystical Druids. Linnea has extensively researched ancient and medieval history, mythology, and archaeology and has traveled to sites described within each of her books in the Curse of Clansmen and Kings series. Books released in her series include Apollo’s Raven (Book 1), Dagger’s Destiny (Book 2), Amulet’s Rapture (Book 3), and Skull’s Vengeance (Book 4). She has also released the historical fiction short story, Two Faces of Janus. A Colorado native, Linnea attended the University of Colorado and earned both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in chemistry. Nicole M. Davis was born in Sunnyvale, California (one letter away from the vampire capital of the world), but she grew up in Boulder County in Colorado. She is the author of The Triplets and The Old Ones, the first two books of Six Sorcerers, a young adult epic fantasy series. She has a degree in Zoology with a minor in Creative Writing. Currently, she lives in Denver with two cats and a small army of scaly pets. She loves reading and writing fantasy, sci-fi, and horror the most, but will happily read books in any genre. She probably started writing when she was about five years old, and hasn’t been able to stop since.

He has taught multiple church groups and individuals, giving them the tools to have a solid financial IQ and becoming financially free. 📣 GUEST ANNOUNCEMENT! 📣 We read on to announce that Sylvia Sánchez Garza, author of "Cascarones” & "Awaken! A Collection of Poems" will be attending Storytellers & Legends Convention happening April 3-7, 2023! 📖🎉

Sylvia Sánchez Garza grew up in Weslaco, Texas, and now lives in Edinburg, Texas, with her husband, sons, and dogs. She enjoys the culturally rich and beautiful border community of the Rio Grande Valley. As a former teacher and a current school board member, Sylvia values education and is grateful for her opportunities. She holds a B.A. in English, an M.A. in School Administration, an M.F.A. in Creative Writing, and a Ph.D. in Leadership Studies. Cascarones, a coming-of-age novel about the cultures and traditions of growing up as a Mexican American in South Texas, was published by Floricanto Press in 2018 and has won three Gold Star Awards. Her short story, "Ojo," was published in an anthology, Living Beyond Borders, by Penguin Teens in 2021. She has also published poetry in various literary magazines and two anthologies, Boundless and What They Leave Behind. Her chapbook, Awaken!, was published in January of 2022 by White Bird Publications.

📣 GUEST ANNOUNCEMENT! 📣 We read on to reveal that award-winning author, Claudia Villarreal of "The Alphabet Thief Who Stole the Vowels” & "The Bully Who Learned to Love." will be attending Storytellers & Legends Convention happening April 3-7, 2023! 📚🎊

Claudia Villarreal was born in Laredo, TX and raised in Zapata, TX, a small South Texas border community. She graduated from Zapata High School in 1993 and went on to pursue a BA in Psychology from Texas A&M International University in 1999. After obtaining an alternative teaching certification, Ms. Villarreal became a Special Education teacher in various school districts in both Texas and California. Ms. Villarreal moved to California in 2003 and while in pursuit of her lifelong dream of becoming an actress, Ms. Villarreal was certified as a Journeyman Make-Up Artist, and became a member of The Screen Actors Guild. It was there that she published her first children's book, "The Alphabet Thief Who Stole the Vowels" in 2009. The book has sold close to 30,000 copies to date. In 2011, having been diagnosed with ovarian cancer, Ms. Villarreal opted to move back to Laredo to be closer to her family and it was there that she opened her own franchise, an Edible Arrangements that she ran until 2020. In 2018, while running her business full time, Ms. Villarreal started penning what would eventually become her award winning second book, "The Bully Who Learned to Love", published in 2019. The goal of Ms. Villarreal’s latest endeavor is to help open dialogue about diversity and bullying. Ms. Villarreal’s new book tackles issues that are often hard to discuss, especially during a time of great discord in the country. Targeted at an audience of 4-8-year-olds, "The Bully Who Learned to Love", is a great read for a person of any age.

📣 GUEST ANNOUNCEMENT! 📣 We read on to reveal that Kevin Looney, author of "Echoes of the Forgotten" and "Storm of the Spirits" will be attending Storytellers & Legends Convention happening April 3-7, 2023! 📖🎉

Kevin Looney was born and raised in Harlingen, TX but moved to San Antonio shortly after graduating from Texas A&M University. He spent many years as a bookstore manager and call center team lead, but now works full-time as a technical writer. He is the author of two fantasy novels: Echoes of the Forgotten, and its sequel, Storm of the Spirits. Like many, Kevin dreamed of passing through the wardrobe, saving Hyrule with the Master Sword, swinging a lightsaber, or flying aboard the Starship Enterprise. It has been his continuing mission to explore whatever his imagination conjures, to seek out and create new stories, to boldly… you get the idea! Kevin hopes to finish writing the last book in his trilogy sometime next year, assuming he can stop procrastinating.

Dallas native Alissa Shirah is the author of the YA novel, "Going Home". It is a modern-day twist on the story of the Prodigal Son. Alissa is eagerly awaiting the release of her sequel novel, "The Prodigal’s Sister." When she isn’t writing, Alissa has plenty to keep her busy. She bears the title of Mrs. Shirah at Morris Middle School in McAllen where she teaches sixth grade math. On Monday nights, she can be found playing in the bassoon section of the McAllen Wind Ensemble. She even has a couple of bassoon students! The rest of her time is spent attending choir concerts and theatre productions to watch her husband and three kids perform.

Manuel Ruiz is a life-long Texan with a passion for reading, video games and music. He works in IT, plays in an 80's band, and owns way too many toys. He writes teen and adult fiction, usually with a supernatural twist, and loves to keep his readers on their toes. Manuel lives in Central Texas with his family where he spends time giving the characters in his head something fun, dark, and interesting to do. Manuel himself states, "Aside from writing, I work as an Oracle Database Administrator in the IT world. I have also been a musician most of my life. I learned to play guitar when I was 7 and could only play “half chords” on 3 strings until I was old enough to cover all 6. I eventually learned to play trumpet, guitarron (the big bass instrument in a mariachi) and the electric bass. I still play my bass today in an 80's band with my brother after taking a long break from performing. With whatever free time I have left, I try to get in some gaming (Last of Us, The Uncharted series, and God of War games are my all-time favorites) and I'm also a big time roller coaster ju**ie. I have many stories to tell and hope you enjoy them as much as I love writing them."

David Norec is a type 2 diabetic and former teacher who lost a brother and a sister to diabetes. From these tragedies, he wrote The Adventures of Exo and Cy. Mr. Norec has made it his mission to educate children of all ages about healthy eating and exercise. The Adventures of Exo and Cy follows Exo and his dog Cy (exercise) in the town of O.B. City (obesity) where Mayor Diane Beeties (diabetes) wants everyone to be unhealthy. In this first book, Mayor Beeties sends Chip and his menacing bulldog Nacho (potato chips) to steal everyone's healthy snacks! A few words from the author, "I’m a retired Science/Physics teacher. My heart is still engaged in the futures of today’s youth. I would love to help hook young people into reading, science, anything more positive than some of the stuff they are doing now. My 9-book Science Sleuths series reads somewhat like a science text, but from the point of view of a group of youngsters riding around on their bicycles having fun and adventures. Then I wrote a 3-book romance series and a science fiction series. I’m currently writing Book 7 of that series. Different people enjoy reading different types of stories."

Cody is the award-winning author of the LGBTQ trilogy, "The Gay Teen’s Guide to Defeating a Siren". The series was awarded The National Indie Excellence Award, 1st Place for LGBTQ for Children & Young Adults (among other awards). The trilogy tackles coming out, bullying, and sirens with superpowers. The usual stuff. He's been invited to speak to LGBTQ groups around the country and has been a featured panelist at book events around the southern United States. In his spare time, he hikes a million miles a week and eats Thai food a billion times (that might be an exaggeration... OK it's not).
