Thanks to everyone who attended JVCC's Veteran Salute, a Time of "Reflection & Honor". TJ Thomas, Davison County Veteran Sevice Officer recognized veterans by their branch of service. Ruth Ragels, Soldier & Family Readiness Specialist from the Family Assistance Center at the National Guard Armory in Mitchell spoke about the organization's services. Chief Warrant Officer 2 Brian Bierema, SGT Joshua Kass, and retired Tim Storly each talked about their service. Kim Burg, JVCC Activities Coordinator gave an opening prayer and closing message. The Veterans and Active Duty Military took a group photo.

Reminder: James Valley Community Center will hold a Veteran’s Day Salute on Wed., Nov. 8 at 11:30 am. This time of “Reflection & Honor” is open to the public. Messages will be shared by both Active Duty & Retired Servicemen. Veteran recognition will be given by Davison County Veterans Service Officer. If you would like a meal, call 605-995-8441 before 8 am or the day prior to reserve a meal for purchase. James Valley Community Center is located at 300 West 1st Ave.

We have 2 Quilt Raffles at JVCC. The Silent Auction ends on Sunday, Nov. 5th at our Dance. The other Quilt is our Annual Fundraiser which runs from Nov. 1 - Jan. 9, where the winning raffle ticket will be drawn at our After-Holiday Party. To purchase tickets or bid on quilt come to JVCC, 300 W 1st Ave or call 605-995-8048.

What a "Ghoulish Good Time" we had at JVCC for our Halloween Party today! We enjoyed Pumpkin Bowling, Halloween Bean Bag Toss, Fortune Telling, Card Matching Game & Halloween Word Search! Some took their pictures with the skeletons in the Halloween Photo Booth. Prizes were given out.

Medicare Open Enrollment - Call your SHIINE (Senior Health Information & Insurance Education) volunteers to assist you with Medicare plan comparisons to set up an appointment during open enrollment October 15 – December 7, 2023. SHIINE Volunteers Allan Olson, Deb Olson and Norma Schrank will be at James Valley Community Center, 300 West 1st Ave, Mitchell during Open Enrollment. Call ahead to set up an appointment.

Despite the rain and wind, we had a great time on our Fall Bus Tour today, Oct. 12th. We visited Dakota Territorial Museum/Mead Museum in Yankton. The grand marble staircase and building's architecture were beautiful! We saw Dakota historical exhibits, original oil paintings, and State Hospital Exhibits. After lunch at Pizza Ranch, we were on to Valiant Winery & Distillery in Vermilion. Sherry Nygaard, owner gave the background on how this family operated winery became South Dakota's First Winery. After wine tasting and gift shop purchases, we toured their bed and breakfast rooms. We ended our day at Lee's Red Barn just south of Mitchell instead of OurFarm near Parker, since the rain made the corn maze, petting zoo, pumpkin patch, etc. too muddy. We're going to Pierre to the State Capitol to see the Christmas Trees for our next Tour on December 7th. Watch for details!

Thanks to everyone who attended the Mitchell Resource Fair today. Thanks also to the local and area agencies that shared important information for seniors. Congratulations to the door prize winners! The Fair was hosted by JVCC, Home Instead, and Caregivers by Active Generations.

We used both strategy and skill today in our Tic Tac Tie Bean Bag Challenge at JVCC! We found it was harder than we thought, until Bill Rebensdorf beat Kim Burg, Activities Coordinator in a couple games! We played teams and singles. Prizes were given out.

Wow, what a great time we had listening to Nashville Recording Artist, Rusty Rierson today at JVCC! Becky Langford was the winner of our 50/50 drawing and donated it back to Rusty! Remember our JVCC Sunday dances begin once a month on September 10th with Roy King & The Rusty Buckets.
