When it comes to big events that allow me to come up with big ideas, the hard part is ALWAYS in the details. Details are what will make or break the entire creation. I absolutely love blue so you know I LOST IT on this one...but in a good way! Hope you guys love it as much as I did! I can honestly say I was just as surprised as the guest of honor when I saw the final product. 😍♥️🪩 Edit: A special thanks to the wonderful vendors we were able to use for this event. Each of you showed up and showed all the way OUT!! Powe’s Party Planning did an AMAZING job on the balloons! On time, ready to work and exactly as promised! Her balloon garland was an entire mood! Check it out in the pics! You can't miss it! Joanie Winsett did an UNBELIEVABLE job on this cake! That's a whole story that I get to tell on another day, but let's just make sure we say, she definitely understood the assignment! Joanie was a beast on this cake and did an amazing job tying in all aspects of this theme. Her creativity overflowed and the results were absolutely gorgeous! Mika Wiggins handled the catering with his wonderful brother Carl and his wife Tracey assisting and everything was delicious and full of flavor! The dj was phenomenal and came in all the way from Texas to blow us away! I would definitely recommend him for any event because even when you wanted to sit down, you couldn't with him on the ones and twos! When deciding whether or not an event planner is worth the investment, ask yourself which one of your friends is going to volunteer for THIS PART of the planning/setup! Event planning is so much more than just showing up at an event and making it happen on the day of. The event creation starts weeks, months, sometimes years in advance. What you see on the day of the event is the product of unlimited hours of time invested. It's not done on a whim. So ask yourself, is THAT worth it?
Well...that's my spill for the day. Now let me start organizing this chaos and see if we can make something amazing happen to give another client One EXTREMELY Sweet Day! 😉

Anyone who has ever been my client will tell you that one thing I have no problem doing is telling you no. If the client wants to do something that I know for a fact will prove disastrous to their beautiful event, I will absolutely tell them no. I will offer other options and alternatives but I will not allow you to make disastrous decisions. This is a perfect example of a disastrous decision. DON'T BE THIS PERSON! Hire a planner/coordinator who is okay with telling you no when they need to.
This client should have been redirected when they wanted their cake to be set up outside. If there was no inside venue alternative available, this cake should have been delivered just prior to the cake cutting just for the sake of pictures or a fake cake should have been used. Now, as the planner, I would have gathered this melting/falling icing up in a large bowl, whipped it up the best that I could, and attempted to lightly spread it on the sides of the cake to create a naked cake look. That's obviously not what they would have wanted but that's the only option we have left here, and that's IF the layers don't start to slide away. 🤣
Moral of the story? Just don't do this! It's too hot outside for your event so it's DEFINITELY too hot outside for your cake to survive the event. Outside is now officially CLOSED! LOL!!!
I don't think I could be more in love with how beautifully this cake topper transitioned from a cheap, plastic orange topper to this pile of glittery fabulousness!! I love how much it matches the basketball centerpiece toppers. I can't wait to finally see it all come together. I absolutely love creating custom designs for my clients!
Some of the easiest, quick setups can still create the most beautiful memories. Don't get lost in the details just because social media tells you to. Less is STILL more in soooo many cases. Look at the little simple, classic elegance in this set up for a small graduation party. 😍 Simple elegance also will save your pocket a ton of money in the long run and I enjoy the challenge of using the minimal amount of set up items.

Years ago this card and gift were handed to me as a "thinking of you" type of gesture. These five dollars were included. They are the result of three elderly women who put their very little means together so that they could show love to me. I chose not to spend this money because it represents so much more than it's numerical value to me.
It represents everything that I hope to be when I'm taking up space and presence in someone's life. Just like these women saw a need and attempted to fill it, whether it was from their surplus or not, I hope that I am able to fulfill the needs of my family, my friends and my clients, giving them only the best of me! 😘
Ok...so let me tell you about this cake. I have waited over a month to tell the story of this cake, but here it is.

This terrible picture is all the proof you need! You see, I ordered a cake from her because I didn't want to trust a cake shop in Tuscaloosa to handle the cake for my hubby's college graduation celebration. He and I both LOVE cake and we like for it to be delicious more than we care about presentation. However, the event planner in me still loves a beautiful cake for my dessert table. Well, I have found that lots of people can make a pretty cake, but very few can make a GOOD cake. So, I had to be difficult....wanted BOTH! That's why I ordered from the person I knew could pull it off. I ordered from Stephanie because I know how amazing her cakes taste and look! She is talented beyond words. This simple cake design was honestly, beneath her, but it was what I asked for. 😏
Well I picked up the cake and she told me, more than once, to be careful. (That was a useless piece of advice!! Lol!) I had to transport this cake over an one hour to Mobile then another 3-4 hours to Tuscaloosa, AL, in the middle of our wonderful southern winter (actually summer in December!) with two kids in tow. My friend Kellie and I secured the cake and started our trip. The appearance of the cake was documented after one hour into the trip (you can already see that this cake will not make it unscathed from the disturbed edges of the icing! Lol!!!). By the time we arrived in Tuscaloosa, the last pic is what the cake looked like. Poor cake!! It was actually a four layer cake and when we arrived it was in two separate sections! I restacked the cake and prepared it for presentation. The last pic is what I was able to salvage. 😵💫
I set up a dessert table for our small group of 10, which included all types of cake options. These were all beautifully presented and delicious cakes from Publix and Nothing Bundt Cakes. When the guests were allowed to try the cakes, it QUICKLY became obvious that presentation is no competition for Cakes By Skeff. Every single guest gravitated to this deliciously ugly and completely destroyed cake! It was the best tasting thing we had put into our mouths!
As a side note, when guests asked what had happened to the cake I told them that I had no idea what they were talking about. I told them that this cake looked exactly the way I had ordered it. I told them I wanted a cake that perfectly represented the struggle, sweat and tears that my husband put into getting this degree over the last 4 years and she made sure that it did exactly that. This cake looks like it's saying (in its Oprah Winfrey, The Color Purple, voice) "All my life I had to fight!!!" 🤣🤣🤣 IT WAS PERFECT!
I'm saying all of this to say, it took him 20 years but baby it was well worth the wait! For this cake and this beautiful day, I am proud of them both! Thank you Stephanie, for this PERFECT cake that added to his wonderful day even though I didn't deliver it in your perfect way! 😍♥️😘

Sometimes people ask me what I love the most about creating beautiful wedding memories with the couples I work with. That is such a difficult question because this is one of the hardest jobs I have ever done in my life! At the same time, I won't accept anything less than perfection (or at least the illusion of it 😏) because this is someone's ONE SPECIAL DAY and I want their memories to be perfect. But seeing the final product is so completely fulfilling, so I continue to do it.
My absolute favorite moment of every wedding is THE GROOM'S FACE. That's right! While everyone else is looking at the bride, I love to see the groom's face. In my opinion, his face when he first sees his bride can tell an entire life story. And that moment brings me to tears, EVERY SINGLE TIME!
This week I want to say Happy Anniversary to two beautiful couples from last fall! 2021 was a good year and both couples are enjoying a wonderful ride in 2022 as they expand their families. Stephanie Marie Strickling here's to many more beautiful years! ♥️

So the wedding is over but what happens to the flowers? Anyone who knows me, knows that I have a deep love for live flowers. They bring me a level of joy that can not be explained! Therefore, when the wedding is over, I don't allow the live flowers to be thrown out. In my opinion, they are absolutely too special and research agrees with me!
Research has shown that flowers are beneficial for so many things! For example, flowers have an immediate impact on an individual's happiness and can have a long term effect on moods. Something so special should not be tossed, but, instead, be nurtured! 😊 Therefore, I treat them like the extra special specimens they are.
But what happens to them after the wedding day? Well I don't know about other planning companies, but I take great care in getting them into an appreciative location. For the flowers leftover from the McQueen wedding, tonight they were distributed to each patient in the hospital in Atmore. Every patient received one of these beautiful girls! And the smiles on the faces of the patients and the staff members upon seeing these flowers, was all I needed to let me know that I'm not wrong in feeling that flowers should never be thrown away if it can be avoided. A couple of the patients even began to cry in gratitude for this simple gesture.
So the next time you are trying to figure out what to do with the flowers, please consider donating them to a place where they can bring someone else a smile. A depressed neighbor, family member or friend or a sick or elderly person, would all appreciate finding these on their door step. They have already completed their primary job of creating a beautiful wedding day for a new couple. Now they are working to aid a patient to healing. I don't think there is a better way for those flowers to finish out their days! 🥹♥️🌺 🌹

I think this graduation party was probably one of my top 10, favorite creations! From creating the customized centerpieces, to personalized accents like the popcorn mannequin display and the female basketball silhouettes..this party stirred up all of my creative juices and it resulted in a beautiful burst of blue glitter 🪩 and sparkling basketballs everywhere!
