I always like a good challenge, but when our firstborn daughter said she wanted their prom flowers to be western and go with their colors (black, turquoise and brown leather boots), I knew I was going to have to get creative! I recently shared about a gal who does the most amazing leather work. She designs everything from hat bands to bridal bouquets, so I thought, why not a corsage and boutonnière?!?! So I busted out my leather tools that Reese got me for Christmas and I tried my hand at leather flowers! And I must say, they didn’t turn out too shabby! Mother’s Day is right around the corner! This year, we’re keeping things simple and offering one size of arrangement that can be pre-ordered now on the website. These will be for pick up only at our first ever pop up in the newly remodeled shop on Friday, May 12th from 5:00pm-8:00pm or Saturday, May 13th from 10:00am-4:00pm. We’ve chosen a rustic, box style vase so that it’s easy to transport. It should sit nicely in your floorboard without any worry of tipping. We’ll also be using foam in this year’s arrangements so that all stems are nice and secure until you are ready to hand deliver them to your mama, grandma, wife or mother in law. If you’d like something smaller, we’re hoping to have some mixed bouquets all made up on a first come, first served basis at the pop up as well. See link in bio to pre order for your mom and ensure she gets the best flowers this year!

I went on a treasure hunt for texture tonight and I didn’t come back empty handed. One of my favorite things to do is add in unique pieces, and if that means clipping and gathering dried up weeds, by golly, I’m all over it! The grasshopper though, he can stay in the field where he belongs.

📣 Announcement 📣
Due to many factors, I’ve decided to push pause on everyday flower orders and delivery. For the time being, Farm Truck Flowers will continue to work with brides for weddings, provide flowers for funerals/memorial services, parties and other event florals. I’m also extremely excited to start hosting more events at the farm! We have a Ladies Summer Soirée on the calendar and I can’t wait to tell you all about it! Stay tuned!

I finally got around to cleaning up the aftermath of setting up irrigation and planting seedlings in the garden, and rewarded myself with these lights! It’s funny how little things can have such a big impact. My garden went from blah to dreamy in the short amount of time it took me to string these lights. Have a boring outdoor area? Add lights for an instant dreamy factor!💡

The shop renovation is coming together and when it’s all finished I’ll be hosting some really fun events! I’m thinking baby showers (as you can see here, babies love Farm Truck Flowers), bridal showers, workshops, pop-ups etc. It’s going to be awesome!

Decided to take my own advice and treat myself to flowers! These were stems that I wasn’t going to use in orders because they wouldn’t have a long enough vase life for customers, but I’ll happily enjoy them before they’re gone. 🙌🏼 Which reminds me, I have a flower tip to share.
FLOWER TIP:
Don’t throw the baby out with the bath water. Just like different breeds of dogs have varying life spans, so do flowers. So when one flower in your arrangement goes bad, don’t give up and toss them all out. Just remove the spent bloom and enjoy the rest! The other reason this is important is because if you leave a dead flower in the arrangement, it will turn the water bad and cause the rest to die faster.

🎓With many graduations approaching, I’d like to take a moment to commemorate the first succession of Farm Truck Flowers seedlings for 2022! 🎉 They’ve come a long way over the last few months and today, they embark on a new phase of life. One where they will establish a new level of independence, and be able to spread their leaves and grow even more. To the seedlings of 2022, we can’t wait to watch you bloom!

I appreciate beauty in all forms. But when beauty comes as a result of my own blood, sweat, and tears, I not only appreciate it, I have pride in it.
Yesterday’s garden tasks presented multiple mental and physical challenges that had me once again asking what I was thinking. So, I had to remind myself to keep my eye on the prize. I had to think about the beauty and good that will come out of this area. And as every muscle in my body struggled to pull the landscape fabric from under the well established grass and weeds, the decaying chicken wire from under the heavy soil, and old brittle soaker hoses that meander beneath the garden surface like a subway system, I couldn’t help but feel like I had done my small part for Mother Earth, at least in this tiny little section anyway. Because in this little plot, she has been covered and bound for years. And I’m pretty sure as I yanked the material away, I heard her sigh in relief as if she had just torn off a restrictive bra after a long hard day! And I thought to myself, be free little flower garden, be free!

Did you know it’s National Nurse Appreciation Week? I just learned this when I received an order for a new nurse in town, and it made me stop and think about how grateful I am for the nurses out there. They are there for us and our loved ones in some of life’s most scary and uncertain moments, no matter the time of day, or day of the week. And I can only imagine how difficult these past couple of years have been on them. So please help me in saying a great big THANK YOU to all of our nurses out there!
