My sunroom where it all began. I moved from here into a little studio with one, freshly graduated, design assistant. Last month we moved to a new studio where there is a little more elbow room and lots of creativity from a busy team of talented ladies. But this room will always be special. Where it all began.

It’s going to be a hot one today and I’m ready for a float in this indoor pool. When we renovated this home the pool was already there complete with vintage steel I beams that had been covered up with all kinds of ornamentation. Our objective was to create a serene spa, complete with a steam room, sauna and gym. Staycation anyone?

Room with a view. Our Gates Project kitchen family room featuring a burnished steel fireplace that transitions through the walls to the outside. We used which transition beautifully from the inside to the outside.

The entire center stair was relocated in this whole house renovation. Large bent wood pendants cast a warm glow against the new floating stair and a full glass wall brings the outside in. One of my favorite renovation moments.

The music room - a cozy place to play piano, sit by the fire, or read a book. We designed this custom Indiana Limestone fireplace, floating shelves and steel firewood holder to keep things warm but contemporary. A whole house renovation and a very special home.

We recently shot our estate section project which is now on the market. This house was such pivotal project for me as a designer. A fruitful collaboration with and our client which resulted in a very special home. We selected this warm black custom pivot door to set the tone.

Sometimes a mood emerges serendipitously. Cleaning up fabric and trim today and this happened. Now I can’t stop looking at it.

A special moment in a special project. Installing a second layer of decor and art. We sourced this graphic Sol LeWitt piece above a custom limestone fireplace. Walls in lime plaster and custom sconces from create a sense of warmth and calm.

A recently completed, hard working mudroom for my very first client. This is the second home we have renovated for them with . Custom cabinetry and rustic floors that feel original to this vintage Tudor. Even a special place for their sweet dog to dine.

A beautiful shot of a whole house renovation we collaborated on with and . The size and shape of the steel window grilles were carefully considered in an effort to marry a modern kitchen addition to this stately vintage Tudor. The flooring tile runs from the inside to the outside creating warm and livable indoor/outdoor spaces. Maybe today isn’t for a dip but a girl can dream.

The decisive moment.

There are literally hundreds of decisions to be made during a whole house renovation. From conceptualizing the big picture to grout color. This is what a designer does. Our role is to synthesize all of these elements into one magical, cohesive vision. Creating spaces that elicit an emotional response. It’s not about the couch or the wallpaper - it’s a feeling you get every time you walk into a room. Whole house renovations aren’t for the faint of heart. But the payoff can be magical.
