Thank you @alabamaweddings magazine for selecting @the1616house the #1 wedding venue across the state of Alabama!
We are humbled & grateful that the two+ years of hard restoration & event work is truly starting to pay off. Thank you to our past & future clients for allowing us to host your special occasions! We cannot wait for the many years & events to come.
Oh & peep the original wavy glass in the 164 window sashes that we restored over a year💪🏼 Just a quick plug to say you should always restore, not replace, historic windows!
This is our heaven on earth ✨

Spent the day prepping all 7 back doors for the spa treatment of Linseed Oil & Turpentine, 2 coats oil based primer, light hand sand for a completely smooth finish, & finally 2 coats finish paint by @johnleepaint 💪🏼 It really is going to be night and day on the exterior doors!
40 of 150 sashes complete, fueled by @taylorswift & @prevailcoffee 💪🏼 Honestly restoring your historic windows is well worth the time and effort. It seems like a huge challenge and not for everyone, but I highly recommend restoring them yourself or using a local window restorer instead of replacing. Once they are gone, they are nearly impossible (or at least extremely expensive) to replicate. We’ve been trying to do a window restoration Zoom course, but these last few months have been insane and honestly haven’t had the energy. Starting January be on the look out for multiple restoring classes where we bring in local craftsmen/craftswomen to break down exactly how to do this special kind of work! Be sure to head to our website and sign up for our notifications to be the first to know when we launch our online courses. Oh & buy @taylorswift new album #evermore 🙌🏼
Today was a lucky day for us! We happened to find 3 (5) gallon buckets of Dumond Peel Away 1 in our carriage house that we had first discovered back in January, but just left them in one of the bays until we were ready to check. Thankfully from a lot of messages from y’al suggesting Peel Away we went to see if they were even still good and sure enough they were brand new! They have definitely been sitting for a few years, but they seem perfect. We did some test areas on the different decorative moldings/wood and it looks to be working great so far. I enjoyed that it doesn’t really have a scent and isn’t too messy. So far I’m really liking it!
Thank you so much @centralalabamavoice for taking the time to come to the house and share our partnership with Lanier HS on Seal Coating their student parking lot which is in dire need. Our Montgomery public school system NEED the community to reinvest to provide these students with a safe and reliable atmosphere to learn in. This is just the beginning, but we need your help! Please head to the link in our bio to help with these project. Thank you so much and don’t forget to VOTE YES for @voteformps #Repost @centralalabamavoice with @make_repost

Although @the1616house isn't technically open yet, it's already becoming a huge part of the community and finding ways to give back to local students in Montgomery. Needing a parking lot for when it's ready to host events and weddings, owner Cristina Cadden teamed up with @sidney_lanier_poets.
The Poets are in dire need of a renovated student parking lot. The 1616 House is fronting quite a bit of funds but is also reaching out to local business owners to help with donations! So far, it's been a great response.
And The 1616 House won't be just a wedding venue; Cadden also plans to bring arts workshops to the area and into the schools. Check out her story now!

Late night tiling of the emerald suite bathroom! This is where the new urinal will be going. Yes, I did say urinal. I’m pretty sure Spencer has never been more excited for a commode in his life 🤣
In order to make this bathroom more suitable for multiple gentlemen to use when getting ready, we decided to remove the bathtub and replace that spot with a urinal. Carrying over the theme of herringbone that’s all over the property, we are going floor to ceiling with this awesome black matte 4” x 12” ceramic tile. Originally we were going to use slate tile, but ultimately we wanted something with a smoother surface. Thanks @restoremgm for the tile! If you’ve never checked your local Habitat for Humanity ReStore for building materials you definitely should!
Also for those wondering about why we removed the tub, there is a closet in the bathroom that we will turn into a shower down the road, but not necessary at the moment. We did already plumb the shower out for ease down the road, which our future selves thank us for.

Juneteenth: America’s true Independence Day.
These past few weeks we’ve been putting in the time to reflect, read, and LISTEN.
When we moved to Montgomery 7 months ago, we were blessed to be introduced to two pillars of our community, Mr. Boyd Stevens & Mr. Rashim McKinney. These brilliant men, who selflessly took the time out of their own busy lives to educate entrepreneurs in Montgomery on how to be problem-centric rather than product-centric. The multi-week course taught us one incredibly important lesson. Your story is what defines you and sets you apart from everyone else, but LISTENING to others’ stories and experiences can often be more important than speaking.
White privilege and systematic racism in this country is rampant and at this point in time there should be no one to say otherwise. Technology has exposed the heinous truths of white supremacists in this country and globally like no time in our past.
After you listen, act. Act in your daily lives. Act in little ways that grow into long term changes. Act out of love and true dedication and not for how many “likes” you will receive on your social media posts. White people need to be soldiers and allies in this fight, but we are not the generals. Those are the black Kings and Queens that have had to endure 400+ years of being held down, told to “pick themselves up by their bootstraps”, while concurrently having their boots stripped away from them over and over again or never having them to begin with.
Building a company is hard work and restoring a property like The 1616 House is exhausting, but we feel fortunate that we are living in this current world climate. We are actively applying the knowledge we are absorbing now to better our future for Montgomery in our hiring, operating and philanthropic practices.
Thank you for following our page, thank you to all that continue to educate us, and thank you to everyone in Montgomery that have welcomed and befriended us. We hope in the upcomin
