The Bushfield cupola restoration is underway! Thank you to a wonderful local company, Triple R Home Improvement, for repairing the damaged wood and sealing and painting Bushfield’s beautiful crown!
This should last at least 3-5 years and continue to preserve this original treasure!

Next, we are having the weathervane recreated, as it was missing when we reacquired Bushfield, Raymond’s family home.

Thank you to our dear friends, the Packett’s for their wonderful contractor recommendations, to our dear neighbor, Rodney, for his priceless research to preserve and restore Bushfield, and to the prior owner for sharing a rare photo of the weathervane.

Raymond recalled from his childhood memories that the weathervane was a bird, and now we have a great photo to work from.

Owning a historic home is not for the faint of heart, as there are unending projects and surprises 😉, but we are so grateful and blessed to call Bushfield home.

NNK friends, l've received many great reccomendations, so I thought l'd pay it forward and share the contractor's we've had a wonderful experience with here at Bushfield!
We found the very best Amish builder, Rudy Lee of Wise Wolf Construction (a Godsend), who built our pool pavillion in less than 7 days for a fraction of the price we were quoted by others, and restored our pier in less than 2 days during gale force winds! 💪🏼💨🪵

Rudy has also done several miscellaneous jobs for us and will be building our barn here at Bushfield in the Fall as well! 💕🏠

The Amish craftsmanship is unmatched!
Rudy Lee specializes in pole barns, roofing, sheds, garages, Barndominiums, decks, porches, and he also rebuilds piers!
He is opening up for new work soon but his schedule fills up fast! (see pics of his great work attached)

The electric and plumbing for the pavilion was done by Jason Brann of True Comfort in Callao.
His work and pricing was also excellent and he shows when you need him! ⚡️🔌

And we have a wonderful landscaper for Bushfield if you need any yard cleanup from the storms or ongoing landscaping!
Antelmo Perez and crew has been taking care of historic Bushfield and our gardens for years! He’s reliable, hard working, and an all around great person! He can make your garden vision come true! 🌸🌺🌹(see pics of his work, attached)

We had several other wonderful contractors including Ryan Edwards (driveway and excavation) and
Thomas kiple of Emmerton’s landscaping who redid our whole yard after the pool construction.

Happy Independence Day from Bushfield! 🇺🇸
It is a very special time here at Bushfield, the home of George’s favorite and younger brother, John (Jack) Augustine Washington!
Their letters to each other during the Revolutionary war are amazing to read and can be found here: https://founders.archives.gov/!
They shared a very strong brotherly bond.

We celebrate George’s victory each year with fireworks on the lawn, across the Potomac River. 🇺🇸🎇🎆🎇
