How It All Started

ESM Events didn't really start with the idea of building a DJ company.

It actually started with the band.

When I started Left On Red, I wanted us to have our own sound system. So I bought speakers, subs, monitors, a mixer and everything else we needed to put on a good show. I financed most of it and planned to make the payments as we played gigs.

Then COVID happened.

The gigs stopped, but the equipment payments didn't.

That's when I started thinking, "Well, I already have all this equipment. Maybe I could DJ on the side every now and then and use the money from those gigs to help pay for it."

That was the plan.

It didn't exactly stay the plan.

I started buying more equipment.

Then more.

And more.

And, well...more.

Every time I got paid for a gig, instead of just putting the money in my pocket, I would turn around and put it back into the business. Better equipment. More equipment. More things to offer.

Then I started adding lighting.

And that's where I really started realizing how much I enjoy making an event LOOK good, not just sound good.

I've always been the type of person who pays attention to how things look. I can walk into a room and immediately start thinking about what I would change. The way the lights are positioned. How the DJ setup looks. Where the speakers are. How the room feels when you walk in.

Recently I was the DJ at a friend's wedding. Some other friends were there and one told me that he and his girlfriend were talking about how nice my setup was and how I "did it big". He said that he told her "Eddie doesn't do anything half-assed". That was probably the biggest compliment I've heard in a long time. 😅

So I started working on the presentation.

Then I wanted to make it even better.

That's when the special effects started.

One piece at a time.

Dancing on the clouds.

Cold sparks.

Mirror balls.

CO2 effects.

Custom monogram projections.

And I'm still not done.

That's probably the funniest part about ESM. I don't really know how to leave well enough alone.

Every time I do a gig, I come home thinking about what I could have done better or what I could add next time. Then I start looking at equipment.

Anyone who knows me can probably tell you exactly where this story is going.

"I found something else we need."

What started as a way to help pay for the band's sound equipment has turned into something I never really expected it to become.

ESM Events has grown from a few speakers and a mixer into a full event company offering DJ, lighting, special effects, photo booths, 360 booths and more.

And honestly, I'm proud of every piece of it because I know how it got here.

There wasn't one giant investment that built ESM.

It was gig by gig.

Upgrade by upgrade.

Piece by piece.

And every time you book ESM, you're helping me put that money right back into making the next event better than the last one.

I have no idea where this thing will end up.

But if you know me, you probably already know one thing.

I'm not finished adding stuff yet.

September 11, 2001.

Twenty-five years later, we still remember.

We remember the nearly 3,000 people who never made it home that day.

We remember the firefighters, police officers, EMTs, military members and ordinary people who ran toward danger while others were running away.

We remember the families who lost someone they loved and the lives that were changed forever.

And we remember the unity that followed. For a brief moment, differences didn't matter. We stood together as Americans.

As someone who has spent 23 years in law enforcement, September 11 carries a particularly personal meaning for me. It is a reminder of the risks that first responders face and of the courage and sacrifice that can be found in people when others need them most. I remember sitting in computer class in high school when we saw it all on TV.

We should never forget the lives lost, the heroes who answered the call, and the families who continue to carry that loss.

25 years later.

We remember.

We honor.

We will never forget.

Meet Your DJ: Eddie, DJ Sixx

I did one of these last year, but it’s been a while, and with everything that has changed with ESM Events over the past year, I figured it was time to introduce myself again.

I’m Eddie, the guy behind ESM Events.

Outside of ESM, I’ve spent the past 23 years in law enforcement. I also have a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice. It’s a big part of who I am, but when I’m not working my day job, music and entertaining people have always been a huge part of my life.

I’ve played drums since I was 8 years old. I’ve been in several different bands over the years, and I currently play drums in Left On Red, a band I started about 8 years ago. I play drums, but I also handle some of the sound work for the band. That's what got me into being a DJ in the first place.

And every now and then, I get tired of sitting behind the drums and have to get out and do a little crowd work. I might grab the mic, have a little fun, and you may even catch me singing Tricky or All I Do Is Win. I’m not saying I’m the best singer in the band, but I’m definitely willing to embarrass myself if it gets people involved.

Whether I’m behind the DJ booth or behind the drums, I really just enjoy entertaining people.

If people are on the dance floor having a good time, I’m having a good time. That’s probably one of my favorite things about doing this. Seeing a room full of people dancing, singing along and enjoying themselves makes all the work that goes into an event worth it.

I’ve been DJing for about 3 years now, and I’ve come a long way since I started. I started out with a few speakers and a mixer and the basics. Since then, ESM has grown quite a bit.

Now I’m able to offer much more than just music. We have professional sound and lighting, along with special effects like dancing on the clouds, cold sparks, mirror ball effects, CO2 effects and custom monogram projections. We also offer photo booths, 360 booths and other options to help make each event its own experience.

One thing you’ll notice about me is that I’m big on presentation and appearance. I want ESM to look good, sound good and feel professional from the time I pull up until the last song is played. I’m always looking for ways to improve what we offer and find new things that can make an event stand out.

And then there’s Madi Lou’s Sweet Sips.

I started that business for my daughter, Madi, with the goal of helping her save for her future while also teaching her how to build and run a business that she can continue to grow as she grows. What started as a lemonade stand has turned into its own little business, and we’ve recently started offering Madi Lou’s Sweet Sips as a lemonade bar add-on for weddings and events through ESM Events.

But ESM is definitely not the only place you’ll find her. Madi stays pretty busy with markets, festivals, sporting events and other community events. I help her with it whenever I can, which is honestly most of the time. It’s been really cool watching her learn, grow and take ownership of something that she can call her own.

At the end of the day, I love music. I love entertaining. I love seeing people have a great time. I love building businesses, and probably most of all, I enjoy building things with my family.

I’m proud of what ESM Events has become, and I’m even more excited about where we’re headed.

So if you’ve ever wondered who the guy is behind the ESM logo, now you know.

I’m Eddie. DJ Sixx. And whether I’m behind the DJ booth, behind the drums with Left On Red, jumping out from behind the drums to make a fool of myself with a microphone, or helping Madi run a lemonade stand, I’m happiest when the people around me are having a good time.

We’re already starting to book dates for 2027, and we’re looking forward to another year of keeping people on the dance floor and making events one to remember.
