Mountain Makins Community Mass Choir: Please Share!

Why is singing such a powerful social glue? Most of us hear music from the moment we are born, often via lullabies, and through many of the most important occasions in our lives, from graduations to weddings to funerals. There is something about music that seems to bring us closer to each other and help us come together as a community.

Perhaps that’s why, when you want people to bond, music is a natural resource for making that happen. Whether at concerts, social events, or at church, music can help us connect, cooperate, and care for each other. This suggests that, if we want to have a more harmonious society, we would do well to continue to include music in our—and our children’s—lives.
It is because of this desire to bring the community together that we are presenting the first Mountain Makins Mass Choir which will incorporate singers from various churches and communities throughout the Lakeway Area.

We are inviting choir leaders and singers from the community to be a part of this initiative. If you have any questions, please call 423-581-4330 and speak with Towanna Stone.

We are having rehearsals on the following dates:
Tues. August 31st at 6:15pm at Rose Center's Community Room
Tues. September 28th at 6:15pm at Rose Center's Classroom 4
Tues. October 19th at 6:15pm at Rose Center's Community Room
Choir songs can be accessed both online and on CD. You can pick up a CD of the songs to be sung at Rose Center Monday through Friday from 9:00am to 5:00pm.

The Thread & Thimble Quilt Guild has unveiled its annual Mountain Makins Quilt. This dynamic quilt will be given away in a drawing at the end of the Mountain Makins Festival on Sunday, October 27th.

Every year the Guild generously donates a quilt as a way to raise funds for Rose Center. All proceeds are donated to support Rose Center’s cultural, arts, and educational programs. Tickets are available for a $1 donation to Rose Center; six tickets for a $5 donation. They may be purchased in advance in the Rose Center office or at the festival.

The quilt, measuring 90 inches square, is of the “Split Nine Patch” pattern. It is a colorful scrap quilt beautifully made up of more than 1000 individual pieces of dark and light patterned fabrics, sewn into patches by different members of the Guild.
