Congratulations to LHSOM piano professor Eneida Larti and former LHSOM oboe professor Teodora Proud on the release of their new album, Balkan Soundscapes, by the label Oboe Classics in London.

Inspired by the performers’ upbringing in the Balkan region of southeastern Europe, this album brings attention to 21st-century composers who have successfully integrated the vibrant folk traditions of the region into their progressive compositional language.

The album is available for purchase in all streaming platforms (Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music, and more).

This project was made possible through funding provided by a CLASS Summer Research grant and the Idaho Commission on the Arts.

Congratulations to two LHSOM students and three LHSOM Prep students who recently took top honors at Musicfest Northwest, a huge music event that brought more than 3,000 people to the Gonzaga University campus and other locations throughout Spokane in mid-May.

Two of our string students, Eric Thorsteinson and Aidan Steinkamp, won gold medals at the event. Eric in the String Unaccompanied Romantic or Contemporary class, and Aidan in the Violin Showcase class. Eric was also asked to play live on Spokane Public Radio. Both study with Professor Giselle Hillyer.

Three LHSOM prep students also won medals in separate classes: Sophia Kayler and Michaela Harris won silver awards and Bernard Briones won the gold.

In more good news, Eric Thorsteinson was hired to teach the orchestra class at Moscow Middle School, and Aidan Steinkamp was accepted into the orchestra program for the Chicago Summer Opera festival.

Congratulations to all!
