So I’ve been doing this “not so weekly” weekly challenge for a year now. I fell down on it a lot, but… life. So here is a final (but not really final) installment for my year in flowers. I picked all these yesterday before the frost finished off the garden early this morning. Hollyhill Color Magic and Sandía Nocturn dahlias, Qis Carmine gomphrena, Hydrangea, and greens from Lisianthus, Marigolds, Eucalyptus and Dusty Miller. October 15, 2025.

Flower friends… I was very much hoping to do one more flower cart this week, but Mother Nature had other plans. Frost on the flowers is beautiful… until it thaws. The garden is done for this growing season. I want to thank you all so much for joining in sharing the flower love. Now clean up, digging and dividing dahlias, some fall bulb planting, and the planning for 2026 begins.

All summer, I’ve been saying, “I need to get my growing trays washed.” My forcast only has a few more days over 70, so I decided to use this warm afternoon to get it all done. Personal experience has shown me that doing this in the bathtub in January is a major pain in the hind side. It’s always a drudge, but it’s a way better drudge outside in the sun.

Apparently, Sweet Peas are as addicting as Dahlias. 🤦‍♀️

Ironically, during prime growing season, it’s hard to find time to simply play with flowers, so my weekly arrangement has been MIA for a bit. Went to a beer festival this weekend and really enjoyed making a hop and dahlia crown so this is my arrangement for the week. Hops, dahlias, celosia and gomphrena.

Decided to save Celosia seed. Ended up with 13.1 ounces. Johnny’s Seeds has different approximate amounts of seed per pound for their different Celosia types. Since mine are an open pollinated mix, I took their average and figured out I have 536,690 seeds. (Give or take a couple thousand. 🤪) I’ll be sharing! 😘

For this week’s arrangement, I wanted to feature some of my own seedling dahlias, but when I went out to the garden there weren’t that many, so supplemental dahlias were used too. The 2nd pic has mine circled. 4th yr purple, 2nd yr orange, Verrone’s 14-30, RM Moonlight dahlias, Sangria celosia, procut Gold Lite sunflowers, lavender, basil and marigold greens. In an antique crockery spittoon. Sept. 8, 2025.
