We are just a few weeks out from Day of The Dead so mark you calendars because this one of a kind event kicks off on November 4th!
This event is free to the public and for the first time will be located in the public lot beside the museum on Virginia Street! We also plan to keep the party going from 12 pm to 7 pm. A special thanks to Eagle Carports, Inc for sponsoring this years event!
Be sure to show up with an apatite - we have dozens of food vendors joining us with food trucks, fresh tacos right off the grill, and sweets and treats of all kinds!
We also have several other vendors joining us selling crafts and art, homemade soaps and candles, clothes and jewelry, and even doing hair and makeup on site.
If you re feeling lucky we have a raffle that supports the museum, and we have several raffle items up for grabs this year from toys and spa items to sweets and tattoos!
We have a FREE face painting booth, children's craft area, and piñatas throughout the event for the kids so make sure you bring the whole family!
There will be lots to see throughout the event: Fidel Lopez will be there to DJ and will keep the music going all day. We will have two Mexican folk dance groups performing - Ballet Folklorico del Museo de Mount Airy will be our amazing closing dance group, and Ballet Folklorico Las Isabelas will be our first performing group of the day! Local Mariachi band, Mariachi Hermanos Ortega, will also be joining us throughout the event for a special hour long performance! Closing our event will be Son Bohemia bringing us some amazing live music to end event right!
We have several amazing partners helping to make this event amazing from Lam Museum of Anthropology, Wake Forest University, Mount Airy Public Library, Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist, and others will be out with tables and businesses like House of Posh will also be out joining in the fun.
Be sure to stop inside of the museum as well to see our newest exhibit: Life after Death: Celebrating Day of the Dead, where we will feature a sugar skull (Calavera) collection and artifacts to teach the history and traditions behind the holiday. We also have our Community Ofrenda in this space as well where people from all over the community work together to build a memorial space to remember past loved ones.
A special thanks to all of the vendors making this event possible with us
