✨️ I love learning ✨️
However, the journey of learning is humbling... from first acknowledging that you don't know it all, to finding a teacher who is well versed and you feel comfortable taking constructive critique from, to the continual practice... and mistakes, to finally feeling competent and realizing there's always room for more practice and development 😂 This most certainly relates to more than just my calligraphy journey, but life in general!
I spent the last few months learning and practicing Spencerian Script from @logos_calligraphy and it's been fun to take on the challenge of a new skill. I'm thrilled to add it to my repertoire for live calligraphy and commissions (like these cards for a local non-profit), while acknowledging that there is still more to learn!

What do I get asked the most about my Calligraphy Workshops?
🔸️Do I have to have good handwriting?
Nope! We start from the beginning with basic strokes, forming letters, then go into writing words and phrases. Often it feels like going back to elementary school to relearn the basics!
People that have a good grasp on cursive and have nice handwriting may have a little bit of an advantage, but sometimes they have such ingrained habits that it takes longer to retrain their muscle memory for calligraphy.
Full discloser though… Calligraphy takes quite a bit of practice to master and there is always more to learn!
🔸️Do I ned to bring anything?
Just yourself and your willingness to learn something new! All supplies are provided and you’ll have materials to take home and practice as you continue your calligraphy journey.
🔸️I'm a leftie… can I come?
Yes, absolutely! I have a few tips specifically for you :) It is helpful to know who you are ahead of time, so I can make sure to seat you at a good leftie seat IYKYK.

I worked with the team to design the bulbs and I engraved 100, so only a limited supply are available at this weekend's events. It was an honor to work with them because music holds a special place in my heart since performing with a Youth Wind Symphony in high school and traveling abroad with that opportunity. This was one of the longest pieces I've completed... one of the most difficult, and yet one of the most encouraging. A client commissioned this for a friend who recently lost their spouse, and while I can't even imagine the depths of sorrow she was encountering, hearing her words about the goodness of God is just inspiring. Such faith in the midst of pain, such hope in the midst of tragedy.
A reminder tonight to hug those that you love, and to turn your gaze upon the things eternal for your hope and joy.
The client wanted a simple traditional letterform, so I opted for a glass dip pen for a monoline classic script. With the bristol paper, I was trying to avoid oils from my hand getting on to the paper since that can affect the ink, so I wore gloves and used a piece of tracing paper as an extra precaution.
