This weekend, we had the pleasure of hosting 90 visitors at the schoolhouse, sharing the remarkable story of the District #1 Schoolhouse and its educational experiences. The Mount Horeb Fire Department's support today was outstanding, efficiently moving the desks to the second floor. We are deeply appreciative of the Fire Department's consistent assistance in setting up and dismantling our school classroom, and we recognize their invaluable contributions to our mission. The schoolhouse experienced a lively day, receiving 60 visitors, including a family from Austria. We will be open again tomorrow from 10-2, and our exterior picnic tables provide a peaceful spot to sit and relax.

Experience the richness of 1893 with our Schoolhouse program's Home Life segment! Our students visit four stations to learn about daily life, including braiding. They'll uncover the importance of braiding and practice their technique with cloth and rope. To top it off, they'll create a braided wheel to take home and showcase their new skill!

During the schoolhouse visit, students will gain insight into daily life in the 1800's through the examination of tools and household items. A notable addition to this exhibit is a quilt generously donated by Linda Walgren, which showcases items seen on a young woman's journey from Missouri to California in a covered wagon in 1880. This quilt was given to Linda's grandmother as a wedding present.

Get ready for a braiding adventure! Volunteers are mastering the art of braiding wheels at the popular braiding station. Students learn to braid cloth and ropes, and they even get to take home their very own braiding wheel!

It was such a pleasant evening. at the District #1 Old Schoolhouse for the Annual Ice Cream Social, Band Concert and Pie Auction. It was such a success, too! Thanks to the Community Band for another wonderful concert with such a variety of music. What talent!! Thanks to all to who were there for the social, those who made and donated pies, to all the bidders and winners for their generosity, and to Jim Schimdt for the auctioneering. Fun time!

Thank you to everyone that joined us at District 1 Schoolhouse Open House yesterday. We had over 75 people come to visit us with some visitors from Minnesota, Florida, and Indiana. Here are some pictures of what they saw in our schoolhouse and in our home life setting. Thanks to the volunteers that helped tell our story!

Take a step back in time on Saturday, May 20, and tour the District #1 Old Schoolhouse during the Open House from 10 am to 2 pm. See the school set up for the School Days and Home Life program which has been happening for the more than 400 fourth graders during the month of May.
