Hi, I’m Marah!I have owned my shop for almost 19 years. I purchased the shop where I found my wedding dress when I was shopping! Not only did I find my dress, but I found my passion & career.
I’ve been married to my hubby, Eric for almost 19 years! We met at The State Bar & Grill in Madison during Freakfest (aka Halloween on State St.). I was dressed as “Like a Virgin” Madonna and he was Zoolander. We dated for 4 years and tied the knot October 15 2005.
Mom to Cal, Isla & Faye (and Dolly our 4-legged daughter). I love being a boy and a girl mom. Cal keeps it simple & the girls add the drama! They all bring their own personality & energy and I just love watching them grow into their own person.
I am part-owner of The Midwest Girl® with my sister, Ris. We started our brand as a homage to our Midwest roots nearly 8 years ago. Fun fact, The Midwest Girl® actually started in the bridal shop and now our flagship store is located in Dubuque IA.
I am most productive sitting at the local coffee shop. I love the background chatter, something about the energy helps me pump out good work.
Good denim & tees are my thing. If I go shopping you can pretty much bet I am bringing home a pair of jeans. If you need recommendations, let me know!
I am a sports freak and nothing brings me more joy than watching my kids compete doing something they love. Most weekends you will find me in a gym watching basketball or at the diamond coaching or cheering on my girls playing softball.
There are many things that I adore about owning a bridal shop but most of all it is the opportunity to make connections & friendships. I want our customers to feel seen, heard, loved & remembered. In my experience when you treat others as you would want to be treated everything falls in place.

This girl is a stunner, she has the absolute best personality, a fun sense of humor and is just a cool chick! Maya works for us at The Midwest Girl (my sister & my t-shirt brand in Dubuque IA). A few months back we did a combo photoshoot while we had the talented Errin Hiltbrand in the house & Maya happily modeled a few of our new gowns. She's a natural and I think she needs to make a trip back to Mount Horeb to model more gowns.

This was such a memorable day with the Kaiser girls. They each found their gown at Marah's and on the day that baby sis said "YES" to her dress they went along with my crazy idea to snap this "friends inspired" picture in their wedding gowns. I love that you can see their mom, Sharon, in the mirror. These girls are so lucky to have each other, but even more so to have their incredible, loving & supportive mom.
Emily, Briana & Mikayla all wore gowns by Mikaella Bridal and baby sis, Kaitlyn selected a gown by Essense of Australia. So many memories were made in our shop with these girls and I am so thankful for each of them.

Here are Marah’s Top 5 Tips for Wedding Gown shopping: ⬇️ 1. Connect with Marah’s before your visit. We love to chat with our brides before your appointment. It helps to get to know each other, calm your nerves and get you hyped for this super exciting day! 2. Be open to different styles and fits, much like finding your person finding your gown can happen when you least expect it and your gown might look nothing like you have imagined. 3. Listen to your heart. You will have lots of opinions but the only opinion that truly matters is yours. You are the only one wearing the gown and no one else can feel what you are feeling in the dress that you love (or don’t love). 4. Try to not overwhelm yourself with multiple shops. Sure, a girls days is great but multiple shops is exhausting. Do your research, read reviews and look up local shops on Instagram. Pick the shop or shops(s) that align with you and your style and that just feel right. 5. Have your people. This is the “mother” of all tips for bridal gown shopping. Often times brides set-up a first time appointment “just to get an idea” and they don’t have their people. Trying on wedding gowns is magical & emotional and if you find the one during this appointment and you don’t have your mom, your grandma, your favorite aunt or best friend you (and they) missed your moment with all your loved ones.
