Did you know that the Rufous hummingbird is the most northern hummingbird species and the only one that can be found in Alaska? They can be seen in the state during the months of February and October. To tell the difference between male Rufous and Allen's hummingbirds, look at the color of their back feathers. The back of the Allen's hummingbird is entirely green, whereas the Rufous hummingbird has a back that is colored red-brown.
