Working on the Chapel and truck it started bringing back memories from previous trips on Route 66. As a child there wasn't the Interstate but just the Mother Road.
The first 4 lane road I ever saw was just North of St. Roberts MO, and it's still there.
Mickey Owens Baseball School close to Spencer, MO.
Danny Thomas eating at a truck stop just outside of Albatross, MO. Going into the Keystone Hotel in Joplin just to ride a elevator that was operated by my big brother.
One trip to California saw a Jack Rabbit running along side of the road, my big brother who had a beany flipper shot at it. He forgot to roll the window down and shattered the window.
Riding in the back of a Ford Station Wagon all the way and got bored so was showing people behind us everything that was packed in the car. Mom got real mad because we had a big box of napkins in the back, I didn't know what Kotex meant but it said Napkins. I thought it was neat having this big box of Napkins packed.
Painted Desert, Petrified Forest, and many other places.
In California Knox berry Farm, Disneyland (it had just opened), Lindsey Olives. You just put your hand in a 55 gallon barrel and pulled out the Olives and ate them. While there a man asked if I had come clean from Oklahoma? I just looked at him and said I nope I came dirty.
Rode Horses, a bicycle built for 4, ate bear, and beat up my obnoxious cousin even picked oranges off the tree and ate them right there.
In later years drove Route 66 a lot in fact my wife and I spent our Honeymoon on Route 66 and visited Buffalo Ranch.
All good memories, not even gonna mention when I was 2 on a trip my Dad wouldn't stop the car even to go to the bathroom so I used the floor board under his feet. I learned he would stop when I said I had to go.
