Today is about to be the darkest day of the year. Winter solstice. So here’s a flash back to summer, sunshine, and blooms!

I’m officially on winter break from school which means time to rest but also time to plan the upcoming season. I’ve processed over half for my upcoming seed sale, need to rework planting schedules and garden mapping, and plan dahlia tuber processing. Finalize wedding availability (2025 looks a bit busy!) and update website. Lots to do, lots to dream, lots to be thankful for!

✨ a few of my F A V O R I T E things ✨

Celebrating the end of the 2024 season this morning with mimosas in my Christmas mug, football on the tv, a warm and cozy fire with my sweetheart and zero intentions of leaving the house all day 🥳

I completed the dahlia dig in record time this year! Only 6 total hours from field to storage! Now for some rest and relaxation (Arizona sunshine here I come!) before I start processing seed and prepping for 2025!

Frost hasn’t hit us yet, but Mother Nature is very clearly telling us the season is over. Between the rain (4+ inches in last two weeks) the wind (3 storms, 40mph gusts) and the lack of sunshine… the dahlia field is feeling t i r e d

I cut this last bunch of dahlias yesterday in the rain and quietly said good bye and thank you to all my hard working babies 🥰 Next weekend is the BIG DAHLIA DIG and I’m excited to see what’s under the ground!

I hope your weekend has been relaxing and just what you need! I know I needed a slow down before the final push of the year.

🍃 TODAY IS MY FALL HARVEST MARKET 🎃🍁

Don’t let the wind and the rain keep you away! I’ve got everything set up in the barn to stay out of the elements. I salvaged the last of the dahlias from the field this morning and have some nicely weathered corn stalks for your porch decor! Come on down to the farm and see me for your fall fun!

🎉 END OF SEASON 🥳

It’s been a weekend full of cleanup tasks. The weather has been superb, but is predicted to change tonight for the foreseeable future. With the help of my momma (and some side entertainment from the nephews) we put the field to bed after 6 months of production.

Harvested the last of the flowers for drying and seed
Removed irrigation lines, support stakes, netting
Pulled up landscape fabric
Mulched waste into field

It’s always a bittersweet moment to see empty ground again. It always looks prettier and more hopeful in spring when it’s fresh, clean dirt full of potential. But looking at the “used”, dirty, messy ground left behind in October has me feeling proud of what this land has given me this season.
