🥳 FLOWER ✨ PARTY 🎉

Spent this morning teaching a private party how to make a candle centerpiece for Thanksgiving! These ladies knocked it out and were so much fun!

I have a few public workshops coming up for the holidays (listed on my website) but am also available for private parties— they make awesome bridal shower, bachelorette, staff/work parties and more! The 2023 season has come to a close 📚

Today I finished the big dahlia dig and all (231!) harvested clumps are in cold storage to hold for awhile. I don’t have the time or the energy to divide and store tubers just yet so into the cooler with natures dirt insulation they go.

Time to rest and recover for a few weeks before I start threshing seed and processing tubers. Holiday season (and workshops!) will be here before you know it!

This week was an ✨EVENTFUL✨ one. A true reminder of my “why”. I took my floral design students on a field trip down to Seattle to visit the and learn more about the floral industry from both the farmers and designers perspectives. All of this was made possible with mentoring from one of the markets founding members and local Skagit farmer Diane Szukovathy of and Vivian Larson of .

My students lit up 🥹 when touring the market, seeing all kinds of locally grown beauties and hearing about all that goes into this amazing industry. The conversations and questions on the floor, on the bus, the next few days in class… aw my heart ❤️

To top it off as we were browsing the market I spotted someone I recognized and just couldn’t help myself to do a little “hi, are you that guy?” followed with a fan girl moment 🤣 Bless his heart, Kristen Griffith VanderYacht was so sweet to chat with me for a few minutes and take a picture. I’ve shown his Netflix show “The Big Flower Fight” in class for the last few years! He’s a local Seattle designer with an amazing portfolio and just released a book this year (click add to cart 🛒 🥰)

Then Frostmas hit, but the sun stuck around to bless us with a streak of amazing weather in the Valley! I’ve been busting out the dahlia dig so I can close the season down officially. About 2/3 through!

I love teaching my students, and I love growing my floral business to be something meaningful. This year I’ve felt the pull to dive in and do the hard, scary things. This week just felt like reassurance that I’m doing the right thing. 🥰

🥶❄️ FROSTMAS 2023 ❄️🥶

October 26, 31 degrees
Cold and frosty killing frost.
The last crop standing has officially retired for the season.

It’s always sad to see it all end and the color leave the field but there is also joy in the accomplishments of the season and comfort in the transition to rest.

The great dahlia dig will commence this weekend. And then officially close the books on 2023. Tuber sale coming early 2024 stay tuned.

Brrrrr 🥶🍂🍃

First frost is on the horizon, and with it comes the end of the season. I’ve been slowly prepping and closing down parts of the farm these past few weeks. This week I’ll finish the main field and prepare for the great dahlia dig this coming weekend. Everything has been photographed and catalog to prep for seed and tuber sales later this winter. Supplies are being labeled and stored for next spring. Wishlists are being made for the upcoming year.

I used to think spring was the busy season, but my body and mind are correcting that to fall. It’s a collision of harvest and planning, tear down and cleaning, happiness and sadness. I’m ready for a slow down, but always dread the emptiness of a barren garden. It’s like boarding the plane to go home from an awesome vacation. You know you need it and it’s for the best, but it still sucks 🤣

Thank you to all of you that helped me grow this season! From customers to mentors you all help keep this farm gal going! Get outside and cut yourself some last flowers of the season before Mother Nature does her thing! 🥀

Soaking up these last few days of the season. It’s been bigger, scarier, harder then previous seasons but also so much more rewarding and enjoyable to watch unfold. Fellow flower farmers and gardeners, take time to just sit and look at what you accomplished this year. Sometimes in the hustle we forget to enjoy and absorb these sights, sounds and smells.

Frost is still absent from the 10-day forecast so 🙏🏻🤞🏻 hoping to hold on to these beauties just a little bit longer.

Summer (might be?) is over ☀️ but I’m still living in zinnia heaven over here! I planted two full 50 foot rows this year, with all the colors of the rainbow. Several forms as well from the Queen and Giant series to Cinderellas and Lollipops.

Besides the dahlias these are typically the last flower left in the garden and it’s because they’re such a work horse! Great as a main flower and a filler with others. P. S. How cute is momma trying to pose like ?? 🥰 She’s been my #1 assistant this season. I should probably give her a raise or something 🤣

Days like these are coming to an end…

Used the macro lens for more photography fun. It’s been a mad dash to the finish line as I prep for the end of season. Still have more photos to take to document all the varieties and get ready for tuber sale 2024.

I forget how much more frenzied fall is then spring. This is truly the criss-cross of an end and a beginning while still trying to enjoy the last nice rays of sunshine! ☀️🍂🍁😎

🍂 HAPPY FALL Y’ALL 🍁

The crispness is in the air, morning dew on the ground and we are in full clash of the seasons over here at the farm. Pumpkin harvest done, seed harvest started, flowers still churning out new blooms for bouquets, and fall cleanup tasks underway!

I feel like paparazzi in the field lately. Spending time documenting alllllllll the babies before the season ends. I bought a macro lens attachment this winter and never really figured out the best way to use it. Played a little Monday night at the harvest market and snapped these. What do you think? More macro photos? Flatlays? Traditional stem shown in a vase?

Harvesting more dried flowers for hanging in the barn today. Got through strawflower, gomphrena, and yarrow this afternoon. In LOVE with this strawflower mix, Silvery Rose. She’s perfect and giving Barbie vibes 💕

🍁🍂 FALL is in the air. Cutting flowers for drying this week. Marigolds are such a stunning color palate and so easy to grow! This was my first season with the giant variety and I will be growing it again next year! Garlands and product for wreaths ready in ~2 weeks. Amaranth and strawflower up next for the drying lines!

My fall bouquet subscription runs for the next 6 weeks and features the best from the field each week! While I grow a lot of dahlias, sunflowers and zinnias I also do a mixture of over 50 different flowers, so each bouquet is truly unique and a gift! What a fun way to discover new favorites!
