Gallagher Fest to Fill Downtown Murfreesboro with Sweet String Sounds, May 4; Dan Tyminski Band Closes Fest With Walnut House Concert
___

Bluegrass and folk music fans can find a festival home in this May, as organizers prepare to host the inaugural Gallagher Fest in celebration of the internationally recognized local Gallagher Guitar Company.

Festival organizers have said the upcoming festival is not just about the music, but is a celebration of people coming together as well as the founding of the independently owned and operated Gallagher Guitars.

Current Gallagher Guitar co-owner and operator David Mathis said the festival will be open, to the public, and will feature live, onstage entertainment including an open jam, several instrument competitions and live performances from hot musical artists.

Gallagher Fest will be spanning the course of two dates, kicking off with an open jam on the night of Friday, May 3.

The next day will host four thrilling contests featuring the fiddle, mandolin, banjo and guitar. In what Gallagher calls the “ultimate test of guitar prowess,” the guitar competition will judge each contestant’s flatpicking skills, with the winner claiming the grand prize donated by Gallagher Guitar Co., a Gallagher G-50 (an instrument that retails for $4,200).

Winners of the other contests stand to win prizes as well, including a cash prize for the event’s top fiddler, an F-Style mandolin donated by Eastman Guitars for the best mandolin player, and a 24-fret Mastertone banjo provided by Gold Tone for the day’s top banjo jammer.

Saturday, May 4, will also feature daytime performances from local talent such as Jim Hurst, Scott Heuston, Uncle Shuffelo & His Haint Hollow Hootenanny and many more. Indoor activities include a guitar workshop hosted by Hurst, a songwriting workshop hosted by Chris Jones along with Heuston, and a presentation covering the early days of Gallagher Guitars by Don Gallagher and David Tipton.

The music will continue into the evening with a concert featuring the Dan Tyminski Band held within the Walnut House, located next door to Gallagher on Murfreesboro’s Walnut Street.

This from Gregory Lannom : Murfree Spring Wetlands

"I had painted this same scene two years ago, starting it on location at the Wetlands, on a much smaller scale. For this larger panel, I wanted to go very impressionistic, conveying the "energy" of the greenery and sky rather than try to describe each element of the landscape. I definitely referenced Van Gogh's approach to the subject, while also employing an almost pointillistic approach to the clusters of plant life emerging from the wetland. I wanted this to be a piece that comes together when viewed at a distance but also give the viewer a lot of interest on a closer examination."

I used pointillism to capture one of my favorite spots on the Murfreesboro Greenway. The bright colors of the boats provide a balance to their natural surroundings. With its mix of greens and blues, the Stones River runs through the center of the piece to provide movement.

Tennessee Riverkeeper Murals - All Summer Art Auction Fundraiser! 📣 Walnut House

This is the first in a series of fourteen peices of art created for the auction, which begins Sunday April 14 at 5PM. All proceeds go to help Tennessee Riverkeeper keep our rivers clean!

Carol Berning : Ancestral Waters

Indian Creek connects to the Tennessee River in Hardin County, TN. My third great-grandparents (Daniel Beasley and Julia Ezell and Wesley Goldsmith and Peggy Isbell) raised large families along these waters. A Goldsmith son married a Beasley daughter—and here I am! And I now have many cousins from these Beasley and Goldsmith settlers scattered across the United States and Canada, possibly beyond. I have painted many versions of these peaceful waters which flow along the land where my ancestors farmed, raised families, witnessed Civil War, and many of whom rest in a nearby graveyard.
