I couldn’t finish the last of the db shoulder (my weakest muscle group) - had 2 more to go. I don’t want to but I think I need a rest day tomorrow and for the weekend

I know I’m decades behind on this. I have always been fascinated with the idea of controlling time. I remember in the early 2000s my brothers & I saw this movie called Clockstoppers & of course there was Click from Adam Sandlers. and his infinite wisdom suggested I go with my instincts & pick up Banachek’s time tested pun intended) treatise on this subject.

A European honey bee colony (Apis Milifera) can get wiped out in 30 days upon infestation of trees tropilaelap mercedesae based on observations made by our counterparts in 🇨🇳🇻🇳🇹🇭🇮🇩. Luckily the mite hasn’t left Asia or Eastern Europe.

I didn’t take my pre-work out this morning so I’m just raw digging it. The lady that was spotting me pointed out an error in my dip form after I asked if we could swap out & if she’s yank me off the machine & pulverize me if I use bad form so I’d both learn a lesson & feel something

Every pollen producing plant has an assigned pollinator - it can be a bird, a bat or an insect. Loss of plant diversity positively correlates with loss of that plant’s pollinator. We’re seeing less milkweed - the monarch butterfly is scheduled to be on the critically endangered species list.

The jury is still out. Evidence that Round-Up affects honey bees is very correlational. Theres no direct cause. What we do know is herbicide can kill the microbes on plants - we all need those microbes. The absence of gut germs can stress a colony out. Most herbicides are viewed as stressors on honey bees. This is why it’s so imprudent to make sure you & your bees both take probiotics.

Beeswax is an under appreciated resource in beekeeping. What do beekeepers do in the winter time? Same thing magicians do - get ready for warmer days / new fiscal year. I bought a mini mating nuc over the weekend at the NAHB expo. To save the bees that will work the nuc- I took slices of old comb & rubber band it to the frame. The bees will wield it together when it’s time.
It takes a lot of young bees to make wax. Much like the human stem cell, honey bees slowly lose their ability to produce wax as they age. This saves the mini mating nuc bees about 2 weeks. All they have to do is wax it together and cap brood.

Just like human supplemental protein - honey bee sub protein is expensive. I got a box full at discount price at the NAHB Expo. IMHO - you are delusional if you think your bees have everything they need defacto in your garden or farm. I’ve seen the data, there is a nutrition deficiency in honey bees as there is in human diets. Climate change, off label pesticide abuse & monoculture farms & gardens being the biggest culprits. I won’t need to use these pollen patties until Spring so I’m keeping it in my fridge

I’m wide awake. It’s Tuesday morning 1 AM. Why am I up? Yuki was convinced something was outside. Now if you think something is outside & you don’t know what it is- keep your mouth / snout shut! Hiding and being a coward against an unknown entity is better than the alternative. In a classic Yuki move - she’s back to sleep and I’m struggling against my hyperactive brain.
