Have a favor to ask everyone......

I've been nominated as one of Idaho's best wedding DJ's for the Idaho Bride Magazine!

If you have a few free minutes, it would mean a lot if you could go vote for me.

To vote, go to www.idahobride.co, then click on the arrow where it says "Who is a vendor you can't speak highly enough" and then select your favorite vendors.

You can vote for just one category, or as many as you'd like.

Thank you!

Well, our 2024 wedding season is officially over. We got to spend last night wrapping up our year at one of our favorite venues, Sunnyside Farm & Events!

I wanted to take a minute and say thank you to all of you.

All of my vendor friends, venue owners, friends and family, and all of my amazing clients.

It's because of each and every one of you that I get to do this amazing job that I absolutely love.

I took the very scary leap at the beginning of this year and quit my day job to pursue this full time. Not only was this our best year as far as the number of weddings we did but we got to travel to some awesome places and added some amazing new services like a full dance floor, audio guest book and cold sparks. I couldn't have done that without all of you.

So once again, thank you! Thank you for your support, thank you for your referrals, thank your for trust and thank you for the honor of being a part of all of these beautiful amazing weddings.

I can't wait for next year! I've got a handful of highlight reels I've fallen behind on that I'll be putting out soon so if you haven't seen yours yet, I promise it's coming!

I hope everyone has an amazing holiday season!

Well, it finally happened. Every DJs worst nightmare. After hundreds of weddings without issues, I had multiple equipment failure at a wedding yesterday, and during the ceremony unfortunately.

As I always do, I had tested my equipment about 30 minutes right before the ceremony started and everything was perfect. We did a check of the officiants mic and guest arrival music was playing. All was good.

As soon as everyone got to the front, silence. No audio at all from the lapel mic. I quickly handed him my handheld and we were at least able to continue the ceremony.... Kind of....

Because I only use that wireless handheld at close range, it does not have the ability to rescan and find clearer frequencies. Once it was 50+' away, with all the guests and their phones and cameras (and I'm guessing as it was a Friday/workday, we had a lot more farmers and construction workers nearby using all their walkie talkies and whatnot), we started getting some random interference.

Thankfully, with the exception of a couple random but short drop outs and stutters, it worked for the remainder of the ceremony and we were able to get through. Now, I do have a complete spare set of lapel mics, receivers etc in case of a failure, but, it's all stored in my trailer and would have taken multiple minutes to switch out. In the moment, as the ceremony itself was going, there wasn't a lot of other options.

Then, part 2 of my nightmare. As soon as I went to start the recessional song.......nothing. My tablet had frozen. No idea why as it was working fine 10 minutes before. I was mortified as I spent the next 30-40 seconds rebooting everything while my couple had to stand at the front in awkward silence. :( Thankfully, I was able to get it going fairly quickly and we had the exit with their music and not just everyone clapping but I was so embarrassed and disappointed in myself.

Now, in the tech age we live in, and in weddings in general, failures and problems happen. There are so many moving parts that it is inevitable that something will fail or go bad. Hard drives crash, SD cards get corrupt, video cameras overheat, people carrying the cake trip and fall, power circuits at venues flip and shut off power etc. but, I have always prided myself in trying to be ready for anything. I have backups of nearly all my equipment, I bring spare laptops, I have key songs backed up on my phone, I bring enough generator power to run all my equipment plus most anything else at the venue in case of a power failure so we can keep the party going pretty much no matter what happens.

Yesterday was as much a learning experience as it was an embarrassment for me. Even being as prepared as possible isn't going to prevent issues from happening. Thankfully, my couple was super understanding and the rest of the night went wonderfully but to me, something happening during the reception is so much easier to accept vs the ceremony and I'm going to be kicking myself for a while over it.

Vendors......have a back up plan for what you can and will do when something inevitably happens. It may not work exactly how you or your couple had planned but something is better than nothing.

Couples......please remember that we are there for you 100%. We do everything we can to make your wedding day as beautiful and perfect and seamless as possible, however, we are still human and mistakes still happen. Know that when something does happen, every one of us would give anything to go back and fix it and we are going to do everything we can to make the rest of the night as beautiful and memorable as possible.

DJs........ I'd love to hear what you would have done in this situation as well. We are all learning and growing with every wedding we do. Do you have another lapel system plugged in on standby? Do you run a cord and have a wired mic ready that you can simply swap cords and be ready? What about music? If your laptop/tablet froze at the moment a song needed to be played, what would you do? I'd love to hear your thoughts and ideas.

Anyone who knows me knows how passionate I am about my weddings and my couples so this one hit me kinda hard. I'm going to take a day or two and regroup from this and then come back strong for my next wedding next weekend

If you read this far, thank you and happy weddings!

What an awesome weekend!!!!

It's crowds like this that make my job SOOOO much fun!

This wedding ended up being a really long day for me (Woke up at 5am, left Nampa at 7am, drove almost 6 hours to Peck Idaho, set up and then did a 7 hour wedding ending at what would have been 11:30 our time) but this crowd had so much energy that they kept me rocking all night!

I love my job! Stay tuned for a handful of highlights reels I've gotta get caught up on (including this amazing wedding!)

One of my favorite parts of my job is that it allows me to travel and celebrate with my clients in some amazing places!

Last night, I got to do a ceremony at Kathryn Albertsons park and a reception at the Boise zoo (I never knew you could have a wedding there! )

Today, I get to head to northern Idaho to celebrate in a little town called Peck (just outside of Orofino)

The picture is part of the drive through scenic Hells Canyon.

I love my job!!!!!

Dance floor is getting stained today! Should get a bit lighter as the stain dries. I went with what is called "weathered oak". It's lighter than the previous look but just a few shades darker than the bare wood. Stain will dry for a few days, then a heavy duty polyurethane sealer and it will be ready to party!

Ok everyone, need some opinions here.

I am refinishing my new dance floor and am at the stage of deciding a stain.

Would you try to get back to the more common, darker oak look like the first picture or would you add a lighter stain and try to keep them a bit lighter like the 2nd picture?

3rd picture shows both side by side. Keep in mind, the darker ones have lots of scuffs and scratches so they don't look as good as they will finished (why I am refinishing them) but I'm mainly curious about the color.

Or, should I go for a super dark look like the last picture?

Either way will have a semi gloss polyurethane finish but once the finish goes on, there is no changing the color without re-sanding the entire thing.
