Being native to Africa, they need a caudex to store their water and nutrients when there was long periods of time with no rains. This doesn’t mean it never needs water, it just takes less than most plants. With their unique shape and growth habit, they make a great container plant or bonsai. Let’s talk about prickly pear cactus! This plant is also known as nopales and tuna in different Latin cultures and is also used in some Latin cuisine. Their paddle shaped leaves are very easy to propagate and can be variegated or non variegated. These plants can take full shade to full sun and prefer a well draining soil mix.
