Yesterday was a hard day for the LEO community, and an even harder day for the wives & children, mothers & fathers, and friends of the fallen officers… today sits even heavier.

I can’t help but feel this hit close to home as my future brother in law is a part of this department, and as my Law Enforcement husband goes back to work tomorrow at our local department.

Weekend re-🧢

Friday - spent some time with Harley Girl while Nathan worked (currently watching The Resident on Netflix and 10000/10 recommend), and worked a little bit on helping some of my fall brides with little details they had questions about.

Saturday - got pedis w/mom 💅🏼, did some grocery shopping 🛒, my grandparents came over to help with some kitchen fixes👩‍🍳 + hung up some decor that’s been waiting on me for wayyyyyy too long 🌸, did a little cleaning 🧹, and stayed up until ungodly hours watching more of The Resident.

Sunday - church, meal prep, and lots of chill time!!

Y'all thought I forgot **Wedding Tip Wednesday**?? Think again!

This Wednesday is allllll about ~The Dress~
From when to start shopping, to "Yes to the Dress" to the alterations, to tips to help on "I Do" day!

Before Shopping:
Have an idea of what you're looking for, but go into your appointments with an open mind! The dress I thought I wanted was NOT it AT ALL! And that's okay! It happens to so many brides!!

When to start shopping:
This all depends on how far out the wedding is.. if you're going for a short engagement, (6-8 months) start shopping ASAP... and your options are going to be limited as your options will be the clearance rack -- or a dress that you can take home the same day you say, "Yes!" to the dress. And that’s okay! These dresses are still beautiful! (It’s where mine came from!) Dresses that must be special ordered might not be delivered in time for the necessary alterations to completed in time to say, "I Do"
If your wedding date is 2 years out, it's okay to wait 6 months until you start shopping, but no later than a year from your wedding date to find the right dress!

Allll About Alterations:
If the bridal shop you've bought your dress from offers alterations based on your wedding date - DO IT!! These are skilled seamstresses that know the dresses on the racks of the shop and know how to alter your dress perfectly FOR YOU!
If they do not offer this service for you, that's okay! There are likely to be several seamstresses in your area - asking for recommendations from your friends and family is the best way to go about it! Just be sure to ask for examples of previous work they've done and make sure they are 1000% comfortable tailoring your dress.
Keep in mind that no matter how perfect your dress fits you, it will need alterations before your "I Do" day!
When you start alterations all depends on your wedding date, but it’s recommended that your final fitting be 6-8 weeks prior to your wedding date. ~You may need more than one fitting and that's okay~ The number of fittings could also be affected by any extra lbs you may be trying to shed before the big day.

Your Dress on "I Do" Day:
If your dress has buttons, purchase a crochet hook! This will help the process go a little faster and save the fingernails of whoever is helping you into your dress! (Walmart has gold and silver hooks for under $2!)

Wedding Tip Wednesday (on a Thursday) 💡🩵

All about the controversial, but popular “First Look” 👀

First looks are an ever-growing popular part of a wedding day!

Nathan and I opted out of this new wedding trend and chose to do a “first touch” where we prayed together, shared private vows, and exchanged gifts from opposite sides of a door at our venue. From our experience, I don’t think we would choose to do it differently.

These are the pros & cons that we came up with to doing a first look:

PROS:
• More time together on your special day ⏳
• Private emotions of seeing each other all gussied up 🤩
• Couples photos together before the ceremony to leave more time before the reception for other fun things 🥳

CONS:
• A 2nd reaction at the altar (and most likely less emotion for the photos)
• Could potentially make for a more rushed morning (depending on what time you’re getting married)
• Depending on what time & season you’re getting married, it could potentially take away time from optimal light for your photos 🌞

A new thing .... Wedding Tip Wednesday!!!

One of the best moments of our wedding day (besides getting married to my best friend) was knowing that all of our families and closest friends were in the same room together having the best time dancing and celebrating with us.

How many times will all of these people be in the same room together? If so, how often does this happen?

My Wednesday Wedding Tip to you:
Step back against the wall, away from the crowd, with your new spouse, fall into each other and just soak in the moment - the smiles, the laughter, the dances, the fun, and the fact that YOU. ARE. MARRIED!!!

(This sentimental moment is also a great time for you to rest your feetsies and grab a sip of water as well)

A little late on the weekend recap:

Friday — went to Goldsboro to see my brother play baseball for his high school team, followed by Texas Roadhouse + received our full wedding gallery from Emily Person Photography (I’m obsessed with these b&w pics)

Saturday — went to the gym + breakfast with my husband, then spent the evening at one of my best friend’s houses celebrating her birthday

Sunday — Nate ended up working an unexpected night shift Saturday night so we spent the day resting, meal prepping, and keeping Harley entertained in the BLISSFUL weather!

So your wedding day was pure perfection — went off without a hitch— if anything went wrong, you were the only one that knew it!

Your photographer said “it’ll be 6-8 weeks before you get your full gallery back”

Next thing you know, it’s been 8 weeks… you’ve been married for 2 months…. You’re getting into your routine… the newness of being married is starting to wear off.

Then 💥BAM💥

FULL WEDDING GALLERY DELIVERY DAY COMES!!!

And you get to relive your perfect day all over again…

Nevermind the fact that my AMAZING photographer Emily Person Photography delivered these at ungodly hours that no one should have to deliver photos —- but BOY DID SHE DELIVER!!!

And here I am, at 8:50 on a rainy Saturday morning, at the gym with my HUSBAND… smiling, and holding back tears as I look through our wedding gallery and relive our BLISSFUL day!

Soak in these moments…. This feeling… and when marriage gets weird or hard… think back to the wedding day + the moment and the feeling you felt when you got your full wedding gallery back 🩵🩵🩵

One thing no one and nothing can prepare you for (before or after your wedding) is leaving your parents and siblings.

For me, I lived with my family until Nate and I got married. I’m a very sentimental person anyways, but moving out of my mom’s house was something that took a lot of emotional prep work….

There were tears the week leading up to the wedding. There were tears at the rehearsal dinner. There were tears while we were getting ready for the wedding. Tears during the wedding. Tears on the way to mine and my now husbands home for the first night I would spend there. Tears on our honeymoon. Tears when we got back from our honeymoon. Tears that I felt like only my mom could wipe away.

LOTS of tears. Bittersweet tears… tears of joy because - HEY YOU JUST GOT MARRIED TO YOUR BEST FRIEND!!!! But also tears of “but I left my other best friend… my mom”

Here’s the thing though, if this is you, was you, you think it could be you… there’s absolutely no shame in your bittersweet tears! In these tears, I was able to turn to other friends of mine who have the same/similar relationships with their families, who also experienced these bittersweet tears.

We had a great time cheering on ECU at the ECU vs UNC baseball ⚾️ game yesterday!

• Finish nailing down our pricing guide 🤑
• Work on our process!! We want it to look good on paper, but bare with us as we go through the trial and error of making this a process that works for the majority of our brides!!!
