The Needham Bank Great Hall Concert Series has 4 concerts a year at Powers Hall in Needham Town Hall. We are now entering our tenth season of performances!
The Needham Bank Great Hall Concert Series is brought to you thanks to the efforts of The Great Hall Performance Foundation, Inc., a nonprofit 501(c)3 corporation pledged to continue the good work of its predecessor, Citizens for the Preservation of Town Hall. Our philanthropic mission continues to focus on historic preservation, building a vibrant community, and local economic development. We als
o seek to highlight and support the excellent performing arts programs in the Needham Public Schools. The GHPF works closely with the Needham Town Manager, the local business community, allied arts organizations, and the Schools to provide outstanding but affordable concerts in our beautifully-restored Town Hall. As part of this effort, Needham students are involved in all facets of concert series planning, production, and performance. Furthermore, a large donation from the proceeds of each season is contributed annually to the Needham Schools’ Fine and Performing Arts program. Now in their sixth decade, they continue to embellish the rich history of one of Country-Rock’s pioneering forces, anchored by founding member/guitarist John David Call, veteran members, and a couple of talented newcomers.
• Orion Chamber Ensemble – May 3, 2025
With a history of more than fifteen years, they have developed a robust repertoire of widely known piano trios and lesser-known gems, and serve as the resident ensemble of the Needham Concert Society.
The 21 members of the Needham High School Chorale, under the direction of Jonathan VanderWoude, will be the opening act for The Alice Howe Band with Freebo tonight at Needham Town Hall.

Alice, who grew up in the neighboring City of Newton, is a rising voice in Americana music and was named the Best Female Artist at the 2023 International Acoustic Music Awards. Freebo has been a major influence on the evolution of American music and has worked with some of the biggest names in the music world. The opening act for The Alice Howe Band & Freebo will be the Needham High School Chorale, directed by Jonathan VanderWoude. This is an auditioned choir of 21 students in grades 10-12. In 2024 the NHS Chorale earned a Gold medal at the MICCA, a regional adjudication festival. In 2023 they earned the Overall Choir Award at the Festivals of Music adjudication in Washington DC.
The Great Hall Performance Foundation, Inc. supports the excellent music programs in the Needham Public Schools, including showcasing student musicians and making an annual donation to the Fine and Performing Arts Department. This year, they are raising funds for students and teachers in the high school’s voice and instrument programs to participate in a trip to Italy, where they will be performing in local venues.

Alice grew up in Newton, MA and is a rising star in the music world. She was named the Best Female Artist at the 2023 International Acoustic Music Awards. The Great Hall Performance Foundation, Inc. supports the excellent music programs in the Needham Public Schools, including showcasing student musicians and making an annual donation to the Fine and Performing Arts Department. At the September concert, a $5000 check was presented by Board Member Margie Brodsky, and accepted by LeeAnn Sutton, Director of Needham Public School Fine and Performing Arts Department.

Under the direction of Spencer Parrish, the NHS Jazz Ensemble is a two-time gold medalist big band, earning those top honors at the Massachusetts Association for Jazz Education (MAJE) State Finals in 2023 and 2024. The group comprises 23 students in grades 9-12 who are selected through an annual audition process.
