Finally made it out to my shop today. First attempt at a cross wreath for my own door at Easter time. Not used to working with mesh, but I had it and the frame in my stash. Trying to be creative and use up these supplies!

That's My Bag... and more! started out quite accidentally. I was working up at my daughter's school as a bus driver/media aide when our agriculture teacher came into the library and asked for help in coming up with an idea for a recycling project that she could do with her students. She wanted to find an item that they could collect up for recycling that could be used to create something sellable as a way to raise money for their class. I did some quick internet research and stumbled upon a page that showed how to make plastic yarn out of recycled grocery store bags. "Hmmm.... grocery bags would be light and easy for the kids to collect ...", I thought, and I already knew how to crochet, so I decided to give it a try.
Unfortunately for the students, the school lost their agriculture teacher before her recycling program ever got off of the ground. As for me, I was completely "hooked" on the project. I continued to work with the bags as a hobby, making gifts here and there for family and friends. The first one I made was one for a friend who worked for Lowe’s from a combination of recycled Lowe's gray shopping bags and purchased vanilla scented trash can liners. She was really pleased with it and she carried it in to work one to show off to her co-workers. That same night she called me to let me know that my bags were a hit with her friends. She had four multiple bag orders for me from her co-workers! Seems like after that, I'd make one as a gift for one person and they'd show off their gift and come back with orders from their friends too. (Word of mouth is great -- the best advertisement!)
Anyway... my new hobby just kind of mushroomed and here I am years later still plugging away at it. I do have big dreams for the future. I would love to hold a workshop to teach low-income people how to make these items (both the plarn and natural crafts) and give them a platform to sell them from online. I'd also like to eventually open up a storefront to display not only my own handcrafted items, but some of theirs. It would be great to hold workshops on a regular basis where people could come and share their ideas on how to make other recycled items. As of yet, I haven't investigated what all of my options are or made any definite plans, but please keep me in your prayers as I ask the Lord to lead me and guide me so that His will for my life will be done.
