This initiative provides free hygiene products, shelf-stable food items, and connections to local support services, ensuring students have access to essential items when they need them. Designed with privacy in mind, students can access supplies anonymously during program hours.

Interns will work closely with K-12 student groups, assisting with educational programs like Summer Arts Camp, and special events, live performances, and even the Nelsonville Music Festival!

No prior arts experience is required—just a passion for arts education and enthusiasm for working with students and community members. We welcome applicants with some college-level coursework, associate or bachelor's degrees, or those in pursuit of a masters degree in the arts field

We're so excited to see the amazing Carlee featured in the Athens County Board of Developmental Disabilities' 2025 Special Edition, published in The Post, for Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month! Carlee has participated in several shows at Stuart’s over the years, and this past fall, she stepped into her first leadership role as Assistant Director for Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street. Her attention to detail and creative ideas made her an invaluable asset to the production.

Summer Arts Camp signups are now open! 🎶🎭☀️

Stuart’s Summer Arts Camp returns July 21st – August 1st, offering kids ages 9-16 a chance to explore music and theater in a fun, creative environment!

𝗪𝗲𝗲𝗸 𝟭: 𝗠𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗰
Inspired by Stuart's Opera House Afterschool Music Program, young artists will form bands, learn an instrument (or continue learning), create original songs, and learn all about what it takes to be a rockstar!

𝗪𝗲𝗲𝗸 𝟮: 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿 & 𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵
Campers will bring Finding Nemo KIDS! to life! Actors will sing, dance, and perform, while technicians design sets, props, costumes, and lighting—both groups collaborating to create an amazing final production on Friday, August 1st.

Our Story

Stuart’s Opera House is the cornerstone of the historic Public Square in Nelsonville. It is dedicated to its role as a regional leader in the arts community, a center for public expression, and an economic development partner for Southeastern Ohio.

We envision Stuart’s Opera House as the cultural anchor and a center of expression on Nelsonville’s bustling and dynamic Public Square. It is a historic venue sought out by people of all ages, from all walks of life, and from near and far. Its well-earned reputation as an intimate, casual setting for continuous offerings of both familiar and innovative artistic performances and community events brings people back time and again.

Stuart’s Opera House is the cornerstone of the Nelsonville Historic Art District. A lovingly restored theatre that reflects its glory days in 1879 through 1924 when it was home to vaudeville, melodrama, and minstrel shows. Stuart’s closed and sat empty from 1924 through 1976. In 1977 a group formed a non-profit and started bringing the theatre back to life when a devastating fire nearly destroyed the building in 1980. Seventeen years later, in 1997, the opera house re-opened its doors and is once again home to local, regional, national and internationally acclaimed performances. Stuart’s Opera House now hosts over 75 events each year and is Southeastern Ohio’s favorite place to experience live performance. Please join us!
