Owners, Dennis and Cathy Hamilton, lived in Indiana most of their early lives, but moved to Ohio after college and lived there for 35 years, with Dennis working in the corporate world and Cathy in education. In 2007, the two of them, along with daughter Sarah, an adult with special needs, decided to settle near New Castle, Indiana, Cathy’s childhood home. Sarah expressed a dream of owning a farm,

so, with only a few acres, they decided to build a small farm: Millstone Farms and Gardens. The name “millstone” has two special meanings to the Hamiltons: 1) a millstone is symbolic of their honoring their traditional, hardworking ancestors who toiled the land in their quest for a fair and free life in central Kentucky and southern Indiana, and 2) in Luke 17:2, Jesus stated “It would be better for them to be thrown into the sea with a millstone tied around their neck than to cause one of these little ones to stumble.” It is important for the Hamiltons to heed these words, to honor God’s gift of the earth, while at the same time striving to live so as not to cause others, especially children, to stumble in their spiritual journey.
