Professors from the Dance Department accompany Bella Donatelli ‘25 and Andrew Solomon ‘27 at the 2025 ACDA National College Dance Festival in D.C. Bella Donatelli’s piece “It was…” was selected to represent the ACDA New England Region at this conference and Andrew Solomon’s piece “burning to desire” was selected as an alternate. Wish them luck in the conference!

As we gear up for The Department Concert this weekend it is important to highlight Xenia Bernal (they/them) a senior who will be presenting their senior capstone in this upcoming show.

Get to know Xenia:

Hometown: Los Angeles
Fun fact: They’ve been skydiving
Inspiration for their capstone:
“As someone who grew up having a complicated, and often painful, relationship to dance, this project and the cast inspired me to create a space and follow a framework that allows people to come into their bodies and take up space as dancers, regardless of our technical training. I played with a movement vocabulary that expresses joy, frustration, and rage in a world riddled with life, death, pain, and grief. This cast of dancers is some of the most dedicated people I’ve ever worked with, thank you for making this piece come alive.”

You can watch Xenia’s capstone this Friday and Saturday at 7:30pm in Palmer Auditorium during The Dance Department Concert.

This Tuesday and Wednesday we welcome guest artist Stefanie Batten Bland to our dance community. Stefanie Batten Bland’s work interrogates contemporary and historical cultural symbolism within the intersection of dance-theatre, film, and immersive experiences. Batten Bland has danced with a multitude of companies globally and is the founder of Company SBB which began in France and is now based in NYC.

Guest artists Kendra Portier and Christina Robson are in residency Nov. 1-3 and Nov. 15-17. They will be setting a piece for the Dance Department show which is Dec. 6 & 7.

KENDRA PORTIER is a dance artist recognized for her contributions to the dance field as a choreographer, improviser, performer, and educator. Born at home, on the land of the Hopewell people, Portier has taught and performed globally from San Diego, Salzburg, Dushanbe, to Athens (Greece,Georgia, and Ohio).

CHRISTINA ROBSON is a performer, educator, and choreographer from Boston, Massachusetts. Her extensive performance career includes long term collaborations with Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Company, David Dorfman Dance, and Sean Curran Company.
