We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.
- Winston Churchill ππΏπ€πΏπ΄
I remember my mother juggling two and three jobs simultaneously to provide the best for my sister and me. As my grandmother grew older and things increased, I saw that her monthly income couldnβt always cover the essentials. Witnessing her struggle made me imagine what it would be like if it were my mom or grandma in that situation. Today, while I was out, I had a moving encounter at the dollar store. I saw an older woman of Jamaican descent, around 75 years old, struggling to pay for a 2-liter bottle of soda and some cooking oil. She was sorting through her purse, trying to count her change, and asked if I had a quarter to help cover the cost. I quickly grabbed the cart without hesitation and assured her I would cover it. Tears welled in her eyes, and she thanked me as she stood near the register. I reassured her it was no trouble, but she tearfully expressed her gratitude again. This experience reminded me that we never truly know what someone else may be going through and the challenges they face. It reinforced my belief that kindness and compassion can profoundly affect someoneβs life. We are all on this journey together, and itβs crucial to support one another, regardless of our backgrounds, as we are better together.
