whew y’all…. January 2025 has truly not taken its foot off our neck. We lost our beloved cat very unexpectedly, and now our country is marching straight into authoritarianism with hardly a whimper. It can be so tough.

🗣️ WE NEED Q***R JOY NOW MORE THAN EVER!!!

To all the nervous LGBTQ2IA+ couples out there - we see you. We are you. We got married early in political protest in 2020 (second pic) the first time the conservative SCOTUS documented their intentions to overturn Obergefell. This has been a long road. We can see it happening again.

We will alchemize our anxiety into action. We will keep building community, advocating for others, doing the work, sharing the resources, listening to those who have the knowledge and lived experience.

A: ABSOLUTELY! It will be the most fun and memorable part of your day, celebrating with all your guests AND the community around you ☂️

What’s a Second Line? This New Orleans tradition comes from African-American community celebrations of important life events like funerals. The parade features a brass band as the first line, then the revelers behind them become the Second Line. Handkerchief waving and dancing in the street is HIGHLY encouraged.

Joy and Sam had their Second Line parade in the streets of downtown Fairhope, Alabama featuring . It was absolutely beautiful to see the Southern coastal community embrace a same-sex couple with joy and dancing 💜

The Patrick F. Taylor Library is all rich carved wood, high ceilings, and exposed brick! For the finishing touches:

✨we arranged a very special table honoring the ancestors of the bride and groom
✨we staged a feast of cake (and king cake for Twelfth Night of COURSE)
✨we lit up those carved ceiling details with light rentals from
✨we stacked coupe glasses for the perfect champagne tower
✨we arranged over 50 flameless candles into a fireplace feature
✨we assisted the mother of the groom and a fleet of wonderful helpers in placing flowers, candles, and oyster shells on tables

This venue set-up including setting flower arrangements and flameless candles, placing chairs, arranging the cake table, arranging picture frames and floral decor, steaming tablecloths, doing touch-up sweeping around the venue, and more I’m sure I’m forgetting 😅 it was a multi-hour labor of love to add the perfect details to this beautiful space!

1. & 2. The main dining space in the rotunda - not pictured, the buffet table on the left and the flameless candle feature in the fireplace (will share soon!)

3. & 4. Bar and champagne tower setup

5. & 6. Table featuring wedding photos of the parents and grandparents of the bride and groom, plus basket for cards

7. & 8. Table featuring several cakes from plus a cake pull and special champagne flutes

9. & 10. Stacks area featuring DJ stage setup, dance floor, dining tables, and hiboys

What’s in a name? 🌹 For many nearlyweds, especially those who identify as LGBTQ2IA+, deciding what to do about your last names is a big part of wedding planning!

We love that more nearlyweds are choosing a totally new last name with meaning and creating a brand new family identity together. (Though we might be a little biased, because we did that and so did our clients the Chaddlers!)

❓How to decide on changing last names? We think these questions will get your discussion going:

1. Do you WANT to change your last name? Do you share the same opinion on wanting to change?

2. Do you have an emotional attachment to your current last name? Do you have an emotional attachment to the last name you might change to?

3. Do you want to do the legal paperwork to officially change your name?

4. Do you like the position of your last name in the alphabet? (For us, as an S and W, that was a NO)

5. If you decide to choose an entirely new last name, how do you want to choose? Based on first letter, meaning, family connections, a beloved fictional character, a combination, something else?

No matter what you decide, it should be a choice that makes you excited about married life together!
