A: ABSOLUTELY! It will be the most fun and memorable part of your day, celebrating with all your guests AND the community around you ☂️

What’s a Second Line? This New Orleans tradition comes from African-American community celebrations of important life events like funerals. The parade features a brass band as the first line, then the revelers behind them become the Second Line. Handkerchief waving and dancing in the street is HIGHLY encouraged.

Joy and Sam had their Second Line parade in the streets of downtown Fairhope, Alabama featuring . It was absolutely beautiful to see the Southern coastal community embrace a same-sex couple with joy and dancing 💜

The Patrick F. Taylor Library is all rich carved wood, high ceilings, and exposed brick! For the finishing touches:

✨we arranged a very special table honoring the ancestors of the bride and groom
✨we staged a feast of cake (and king cake for Twelfth Night of COURSE)
✨we lit up those carved ceiling details with light rentals from
✨we stacked coupe glasses for the perfect champagne tower
✨we arranged over 50 flameless candles into a fireplace feature
✨we assisted the mother of the groom and a fleet of wonderful helpers in placing flowers, candles, and oyster shells on tables

SWIPE ➡️➡️➡️ to see the Before and Afters of our set up for the Hutcheson wedding at Patrick F. Taylor Library!

This venue set-up including setting flower arrangements and flameless candles, placing chairs, arranging the cake table, arranging picture frames and floral decor, steaming tablecloths, doing touch-up sweeping around the venue, and more I’m sure I’m forgetting 😅 it was a multi-hour labor of love to add the perfect details to this beautiful space!

What’s in a name? 🌹 For many nearlyweds, especially those who identify as LGBTQ2IA+, deciding what to do about your last names is a big part of wedding planning!

We love that more nearlyweds are choosing a totally new last name with meaning and creating a brand new family identity together. (Though we might be a little biased, because we did that and so did our clients the Chaddlers!)

❓How to decide on changing last names? We think these questions will get your discussion going:

1. Do you WANT to change your last name? Do you share the same opinion on wanting to change?

2. Do you have an emotional attachment to your current last name? Do you have an emotional attachment to the last name you might change to?

3. Do you want to do the legal paperwork to officially change your name?

4. Do you like the position of your last name in the alphabet? (For us, as an S and W, that was a NO)

5. If you decide to choose an entirely new last name, how do you want to choose? Based on first letter, meaning, family connections, a beloved fictional character, a combination, something else?

No matter what you decide, it should be a choice that makes you excited about married life together!

QUESTION: When is the best time to hire a wedding coordinator?

ANSWER: Around 4-12 months before the Big Day!

At Pair of Violets, we specialize in “month-of” coordination, meaning 30-60 days out from your wedding day we will have a formalized hand off and take over logistics so you can be worry-free! This timeline generally means you have booked all major vendors (think venue, photographer, catering) so we can guide you through the process of planning your details, timeline, etc. and coordinating the logistics of your celebration.

What’s a wedding idea you wish you had when you got married: “I know several people that have done wild themed weddings where guests dress to theme and THAT was definitely a missed opportunity for us!! Maybe we’ll throw another one again??”

Your go-to advice for couples in planning: “Have someone in mind before you start to be the person that cuts through all your over-analyzing and overwhelm and just makes you choose between the two colors already. They are, quite literally, a lifesaver. And they probably deserve a thank you gift afterwards”

📢🚨ALL HOMOS STRONGLY WELCOMED HERE

As the q***r community continues to see a deterioration of rights in all facets, today’s ruling is unfortunately by no means surprising, but incredibly discouraging and fear-inducing. In only the nine years we have been together, we have seen national marriage equality granted, then verbally expressed the intention to take away, states on the rise targeting the LGBTQ+ and particularly trans community, and now our basic right to not be discriminated against based on our sexual orientation.

The legal system has taken us on quite the rollercoaster and it doesn’t look like the ride is anywhere near over. To say we’re exhausted by the whiplash is a gross understatement, but we have no problem calling out when they get it wrong.

To be totally clear, there is no room for ANY hate in a business supposedly centered around love. All weddings deserve equal services. POV is loudly and UNAPOLOGETICALLY q***r-owned, and will always celebrate our LGBTQ+ clients. And we will champion and work with businesses that believe in that too.

Holding the pain and anxiety alongside all of you, but also our middle fingers to SCOTUS too.
