🌍 Happy America Recycles Day! ♻️
Here at the LEED-certified New Orleans Ernest N. Morial Convention Center, we’re committed to sustainability, and we're making it easier for everyone to reduce waste. Here’s how we’re doing our part:

Recycling bins are conveniently located throughout the building for cans, bottles ( #1 & #2), and paper. We even offer bead recycling during Mardi Gras and composting at select events to go even further! For exhibitors, we minimize landfill waste by recycling cardboard, lumber, plastic wrap, pallets, and scrap metal, as well as encourage our exhibitors to take home what they bring in.

Huge sustainability milestone!
The New Orleans Ernest N. Morial Convention Center has filled over 500,000 water bottles! Campus Security Senior Supervisor, Michael George, monitors the output of our refill stations, which provide attendees with an eco-friendly alternative to single-use bottles. This data highlights the positive impact these stations have as we work to prevent plastic waste from reaching local landfills. Don’t forget your refillable bottle when you visit and join us in reducing, reusing, and recycling!

Today, we welcome the International WorkBoat Show to New Orleans, the city Built to Host!

Not only have they set up phenomenal boat displays, booths, and more throughout our exhibit halls for attendees, but they've also parked two boats at the Julia Street entrance to the NOEMCC, along our Pedestrian Park, allowing the entire city to experience some work boat action!

This past Saturday, in partnership with New Orleans & Company, we had the privilege of hosting international media as they toured the city to help share the story of New Orleans in anticipation of the upcoming Super Bowl.

During this stop on their journey, attendees heard from several key leaders within our organization, including our President and CEO, Michael J. Sawaya; Chief Operating Officer, Adam Straight; Senior Director of Sales and Event Services, Elaine Williams; and Director of Sustainability, Linda Baynham.

We are proud to play a role in showcasing all that makes New Orleans such a unique and vibrant destination, and we look forward to the city's continued global spotlight during the Super Bowl and beyond.

“A new 'Top 250' study, conducted by 2Synergize LLC, Destinations International, and Simpleview, ranks New Orleans third among destinations for conventions. Of the top 250 conventions in the country, the study reveals 88 percent are held in just 20 cities, including New Orleans.

The study analyzed the largest conventions of 2,700 or more hotel rooms on peak night. It found guests like New Orleans’ walkability, compact geographic footprint, venues, culture, and hospitality.”

Congratulations to The New Orleans Ernest N. Morial Convention Center's very own Senior Director of Sales and Event Services, Elaine Williams, on two tremendous accomplishments!

She was recently named one of the “100 Most Influential Venue Professionals” by Eventex and recognized as one of New Orleans CityBusiness’ "Women of the Year," an award that honors 50 women as top leaders in their New Orleans area communities.

This week we are unveiling new uniforms for Campus Security! Our Campus Security officers will now be wearing khaki button-down shirts with a logo patch for clear identification and a professional look. These new uniforms are designed to make our security personnel more recognizable and approachable as they work to ensure a safe and secure environment. Michael J. Sawaya, president and CEO of the New Orleans Ernest N. Morial Convention Center (NOEMCC) announced that he will assume the role of president and CEO of the Audubon Nature Institute after the first of the year. “Serving as the leader of this Convention Center for the past six and a half years has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my long and blessed career,” said Sawaya. “Together, we have achieved incredible success, and I am immensely proud of the work we have accomplished together as a team – enhancing our facilities and our services to remain a premier hub for conventions, exhibitions, and events and setting the standard for excellence in our industry.”

“Oh how I want to be in that number…when the nurses go marching in!” We hosted over 13,000 nurses for the ANCC National Magnet and Pathway to Excellence Conference last week, but this is only a small fraction of the nearly 700,000 visitors we will welcome to the New Orleans Ernest N. Morial Convention Center by the end of 2024. New Orleans is truly “Built To Host!”

This spooky season, we hosted the the Association for Talent Development New Orleans Chapter (ATD of New Orleans) in our dedicated employee training room (known as the Skills Studio) and gazed into the near future through our crystal ball! 🔮 Our very own Senior Director of Talent Development and Innovation, Tim Tumminello, led an enlightening discussion on how AI will drive faster, smarter results in the workplace—showing that it’s not as scary as it seems! With devilishly good food and a frighteningly fun costume contest, it was a spook-tacular night to remember! 🎃👻

Earlier today, our Chief Operating Officer, Adam J. Straight, shared his insights at the CMAA (Construction Management Association of America) Gulf Coast Chapter's Professional Development event. He delved into the ongoing renovation projects that are part of our Capital Improvement Plan, focusing on the unique challenges and opportunities of operating an "active" event venue amid significant construction. Adam highlighted the strategies driving these improvements and the value they bring to our facility, campus, and the broader region. Thank you to CMAA for the opportunity to present to your group!

The National Funeral Directors Association hosted a heartfelt Service of Remembrance at their annual convention, embracing the tradition of a New Orleans Jazz Funeral. The ceremony featured a Brass Band, Mardi Gras Indians, and a horse-drawn hearse in a traditional procession, paying tribute to the funeral service community members who passed away over the past year while blending somber reflection with New Orleans' vibrant culture.

We were honored to participate in Life City’s Impact Officer Roundtable! Our team had an incredible time discussing the diversification of business spending and navigating small and emerging business programs.

Alita Caparotta, our Chief Administrative Officer, shared valuable insights into our SEB program and WIN events, helping attendees understand the resources available for growth. Ernest M. English from GMc + Co. gave a live demonstration of the SEBConnect app, showcasing how it can simplify connections and opportunities. Jade Simmons and Royelle Hickerson represented our SEB programs, contributing to more discussions with attendees at the information table. We love getting out in the community. Today, the NFL and the New Orleans Super Bowl LIX Host Committee gathered at Mardi Gras World to announce the Super Bowl LIX event calendar! Save the date for a Carnival parade on February 8 in celebration of the big game! Another anticipated activity is the Super Bowl Experience at The New Orleans Ernest N. Morial Convention Center, offering a week of exciting activities for football fans leading up to the Super Bowl.

During the WEFTEC water quality event, Convention Center employees, event staff and special guests (dubbed the “Trash Team”) rooted through over 3,674 pounds of a representative sample of waste materials. The goal of the exercise was to evaluate how well the building is diverting event materials from landfills. The contents of trash, recycling and composting bins were collected over a 24-hour period and then sorted by hand into groups (e.g. metals, plastics, compostables, landfill waste, etc.) to determine the extent to which materials were placed in their proper collection bins.

We are honored to have recently hosted the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) Annual Technical Conference and Exhibition, celebrating an incredible milestone—their 100th year anniversary! It was an extraordinary gathering of industry leaders, showcasing the latest in oil and gas technologies and sustainable energy solutions.
