Isnt it ironic? 🎶 🌧️
The skies opened up over the Umbrian countryside at 3:30pm - which was exactly the ceremony start time. Earlier that day we had already made the call to move the ceremony flowers and dinner tables inside. But as busses began dropping guests off @castello_di_petrata , it was storming. In order to keep everyone happy, we quickly decided to do the cocktail hour before the ceremony instead of after. Guests sipped on cocktails and enjoyed Italian h’or d’oeuvres, while we kept the bride and groom hidden.
It was truly a feat of teamwork with the venue, photographer and videographer. During the cocktail hour, we saw in the forecast that there was about to be a 10 minute break in the rain. So as the rain drops slowed, we took a leap of faith and got everyone lined up for the ceremony, pushed the guests outside, got the wedding party down the aisle, and started the ceremony 😮💨. As the officiant spoke you could see the black storm clouds riding in behind the couple on the cliffside. The forecast now said 3 minutes until the sky would open up again, so I started whistling at the officiant to WRAP. IT. UP. It started drizzling. The bride and groom kissed. And at that exact moment the rain came down.
The guests and couple ran through the rain into an underground tunnel that brought them through a cellar and into the reception space. It was truly like a scene from a romantic movie.

It was the morning of the wedding, and rain was on the forecast. 🌧️ Words no wedding planner wants to hear.
The day started out with coffee and a beautiful homemade breakfast delivered to the bridal suite @castello_di_petrata. Hair and makeup by @samanthapretto_hair_and_makeup began and everyone was in good spirits.
But behind the scenes was a different story with rain on the way. Thankfully, we had always planned to do a private vow exchange before the ceremony, but along with the florists @leandroflowers we were scrambling to decide whether or not to move the ceremony inside. If not, the flowers would be ruined by the impending weather.
It was also extremely important to the couple to get outdoor photos becaues of the beauty of the venue and the breathtaking views - and it wasn’t looking promising if we delayed it any furthur.
So after a morning of deliberation, we made the call at noon to move the first look and vow exchange up an hour to beat the rain - which was moving in over the valley. Fortunately, we were able to do their portraits, first look, and vow exchange outside of the original ceremony set up - as designed. Then… we had to break it down and move everything inside.
Hair and makeup were so lovely and accommodating. They were able to move everyone up an hour and miraculously get the bride ready a full hour before she was supposed to be.
After a day of teamwork by all of the vendors, we were able to get family and wedding party photos, and the couple was able to exchange the most heartfelt private vows overlooking the Umbrian countryside before the rain came down. 🤍

Let’s set the scene for our wedding in Assisi, Italy 🇮🇹 :
When we arrived to the Umbria region of Italy for Ashley and Robbie’s wedding weekend, we were unprepared for just how beautiful the small town of Assisi really is. As our driver navigated the winding uphill roads through gorgeous farmland and cobblestone streets, we finally reached the walled town on the top of the hill. Cars aren’t allowed in the old city center, so we were dropped off with our luggage to walk through the medevil streets to our airbnb.
Around every corner was a hidden staircase, the cutest local shop, or the most gorgeous view of the rolling Umbrian valley beyond the edge of the city wall.
Our couple decided that they wanted to walk around Assisi the day of their Welcome Party to take photos with their wedding photographer @james.shaw.weddings, which we were thrilled about! The town itself was not crowded at all, which allowed them to really explore and have fun - we just followed and documented 😉📷
The locals and shop owners were so excited that Ashley and Robbie were getting married in their beloved, charming town. Not much english is spoken in Assisi, but everyone was so welcoming and supportive. It made this fairytale city even more magical to take photos in.
Time truly stands still in Assisi. While you could tour the entire city in a day, it’s worth it to take your time and enjoy it. Trust us, you’ll want to.
Spending a full day in the town made us even more excited for the wedding weekend that was to come @castello_di_petrata - the most magnificent castle in the valley of Umbria.
