NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Ernest N. Morial Convention Center’s (NOENMCC) Small and Emerging Business (SEB) Program held a “WIN with NOENMCC” event on January 8, 2025. Hosted by the Convention Center’s SEB Program, the goal of the event was to give small and emerging businesses the opportunity to network with industry leaders whose organizations have current or upcoming contracting opportunities. With an “Empowering Partnerships” theme, the first SEB event of the new year featured guest speakers from prominent partners of the SEB Program—the Port of New Orleans (PORT NOLA) and New Orleans & Company.

“Local businesses play a vital role in building a strong community, and New Orleans is home to a variety of remarkable small and emerging companies,” said Convention Center Interim President and CEO Alita Caparotta. “The Convention Center has long been committed to fostering connections and increasing access for these businesses in Louisiana. In partnering with other organizations to share information about upcoming jobs and projects, we are helping to build a brighter future for our city and our state.”

On Thursday, the New Orleans Ernest N. Morial Convention Center hosted New Orleans-area business, tourism and hospitality leaders to showcase newly renovated spaces in the facility’s ongoing $557 million Capital Improvements Plan (CIP). The modern designs, technical upgrades and sustainable improvements highlighted at the "Sneak Peek" social event are part of phase one of the CIP.

We would like to congratulate former Ernest N. Morial New Orleans Exhibition Hall Authority Commissioner Al Groos on his retirement after serving for nearly five decades in the New Orleans hospitality industry.

Mr. Groos, the esteemed former General Manager of the Royal Sonesta, served admirably on the Convention Center’s governing board from 2007-2020. His reach in our industry was far and wide, and steered New Orleans tourism to great heights.

In celebration of his longtime service and commitment to New Orleans’ hospitality industry, Sonesta International Hotels (Sonesta) has announced the retirement of general manager Alfred “Al” Groos, who has helmed The Royal Sonesta New Orleans since 2006.

We would like to extend our warmest welcomes to Octavio Mantilla, the newest commissioner named to the Ernest N. Morial New Orleans Exhibition Hall Authority! Mr. Mantilla was nominated for this post by the New Orleans Chapter of the Louisiana Restaurant Association, and was appointed to the Authority by Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry.

Mr. Mantilla is a Co-Owner of BRG Hospitality, and was officially sworn in today by Michael J. Sawaya, New Orleans Ernest N. Morial Convention Center President and CEO, along with the David Phelps, General Counsel for the New Orleans Ernest N. Morial Convention Center.
