What to bring for the Victorian Vampire Picnic Nov 3rd from 1pm?

Think like you are going on a traditional picnic!

The most important thing is to bring a blanket for you and your friends so that you have somewhere to sit!

Next find foods you would like to share amongst yourselves, plan things for your own comfort and fun that you enjoy!

Having an umbrella packed for weather just incase is also a good idea. As we are in the fall the weather can be unpredictable.

Other items: The Victorian picnic is a fun social space, beyond sharing food and conversation there are other ways to make it fun. If you like tarot cards or even playing cards you could always bring a deck to play with.

If you like to play music you could always bring an instrument!

Maybe you want to sketch while you're there so bring a sketch book?

Little things like this can really enhance an experience. We look forward to seeing you all on the 3rd! Feel free to take pictures and videos to share with this group for the memories! 🖤🦇🍂

Victorian Vampire Picnic etiquette for the Sunday the 3rd of November at City Park from 1pm!
🖤Maybe it's your first time going to this event and you want to know what to expect?
🖤First off you'll want to take an uber of drive to City Park. Make sure you enter at the Friedrich's Drive entrance. The location is by the parking lot close to the marina boat rentals. It is right of the path leading to the lake and under the large Spanish moss tree!
🖤If you're new don't be nervous, we are all super sweet and everyone is welcome
🖤If you are with a group of friends bring a blanket and pick a spot where you want to sit, anywhere is open and honestly even if you want to pick a secluded spot for your friends that is close by so you can do your own thing that is ok too!
People tend to group around blankets, some people will socialize and move between groups others will stick with their friends. Don't be afraid to meet new people or talk to folks you see, we are all very welcoming!
🖤After the event is over take a moment to clean up your space and take any trash out with you, that way we can all keep the park in wonderful condition and keep enjoying the space for years years come.
🖤Remember to respect each other and be kind to one another. If anyone is bothering you or being unkind please just let Lila Starlett know as she is your hostess!
🖤 Due to city park rules this event will be kept at under 100 people.
🖤 No commercial photography is allowed via park rules, but of you want to take pictures or videos on your phone that is totally allowed and we would love to see them!!
🖤 Please wear something fabulous to keep within the theme of Victorian, Vampiric and gothic, steampunk, classic Edwadrian and Regency is also welcome!
🌹
The Victorian picnic is a great community space once a year for people to enjoy the tranquility of the park while forming new friendships. We very much look forward to seeing you!

Here is where we will still be holding the Victorian Vampire picnic in the park on november 3rd from 1pm, the red circle will be the meeting point.
City park is LARGE and its super easy to get lost in, in order to find the location please enter at Friedrich's road, there is a parking lot next to the marina where the boat rentals are. To the right of the walkway leading to the rentals you will see a huge Spanish moss tree, the picnic is taking place under that tree!

(If you do happen to drive in and park at the other end of the park be aware it will take you around 20-30 minutes to walk over to the other side where the group will be, so please try to enter at the rental side, there is a car park there, or better yet take an uber in! 💗) I'll include the event link below in comments.

I waited as long as I could before making this post in the hopes that things might get better. They have not. As some of you know, while we run events all over the country, we actually live in Asheville NC. Twelve days ago we were hit by hurricane Helene and became stranded. It has been twelve days without power, water, phones etc. and yesterday we had to leave our place of shelter as they unfortunately had to close down. We have basically lost everything and become homeless.

I've been running events for over a decade and this will only be the second time I have ever had to make a decision to postpone an event. Believe me when I say this genuinely breaks my heart to have to make this call. I spent last night in tears sitting with Michael when we made the final decision. However, I know with the extent of everything that is going on that it is the right thing to do.

The main event is postponed until next year's Halloween. While this is a non-refundable event, if you have tickets from this year they will absolutely roll over to next year, and any GA tickets that were purchased I will personally upgrade to VIP as an apology.

I spoke to my friends Lila and Vesper who live down in New Orleans, and while the main event is postponed they have agreed to still run the Victorian Picnic for you all this year, so if you are still going to the city despite all this crazy hurricane season, then that event will be open to you and is free for everyone to attend. You have my deepest apologies, and please if you are reading this and live in Florida please evacuate and do no wait, I would not want anyone to ever experience what we are going through here.

Stay safe out there.

The Casket Girls, also known as the "Casquette Girls," were a group of young women sent to New Orleans from France in the 1700s to marry French colonists. They arrived with small chests, or "caskets," containing their belongings, hence the name. However, their story takes a dark turn, with reports of mistreatment, forced marriages, and mysterious disappearances.

The legend claims that some of these girls were vampires, and their disappearances were attributed to their supposed vampiric nature. This myth likely originated from the fact that many of these women were buried in the Ursuline Convent's cemetery, leading to speculation about their fate.

The Ursuline Convent, still standing today, adds to the eerie atmosphere surrounding the Casket Girls' story. Visitors have reported strange occurrences and sightings, fueling the legend further.

While the vampirism aspect is likely a product of folklore and superstition, the Casket Girls' history highlights the challenges and hardships faced by women in colonial America. Their story has become an integral part of New Orleans' rich history and cultural heritage.
