Hey there, Space Cadets.

Captain Scarps, here. I have the unfortunate task of letting all of you know that we will be unable to put on The Galactic Get Down in 2023. This wasn’t an easy decision for us to make. We absolutely adore every stellar moment with the GGD community and will miss it greatly.

However, we have quite a bit of rebuilding to do before we can properly put on another festival. We would much rather take time off than throw a sub-par event. Please keep an eye out for other events by Get Down Enterprises - and take care of yourselves out there. We don’t know what the future may hold, but we hope that the stars align for us to bring you another Galactic Get Down in the future.

Get Down Enterprises, Galactic Get Down, and I, Joe Scarpellino, want to make a formal apology to FairPlay Entertainment regarding their experience at GGD2022. First and foremost - the show FPE put on was amazing. The vibes and energy were positive, while also staying real and raw. They were high-on-life, but also realistic and artful. I was impressed with what I heard.

However, I know that I personally dropped the ball with them when it came to communication day-of-performance. My anxiety and depression got the best of me on Saturday. Basically, my bubble burst and I wasn’t truly being as present a host as they deserve. Lt. Sunnie, Brandon Pulphus, Mpls Drew, Tuvok the Word, and Mickey Breeze are some of my favorite artists in the Twin Cities. A few of us have even grown to be very close friends, so bringing them to the Get Down was a no-brainer. However, I DID take for granted the fact that we were bringing in an all-black group of hip-hop artists into a historically and predominantly white space. They were not the only act featuring POC, but even so, I did not do my best to help answer their questions to ease their worries as they entered our space. This is something I have been made aware of, and take full accountability for causing. I intend to be more mindful of this in all ways in the future.

Due to a lack of communication about the schedule adjustments we had to make due to bad weather - they were cut off before the end of their set. To me, things were on time and made sense, and their set was adjusted to keep on track. I also didn’t properly answer and accommodate their needs for selling their merchandise. They felt slighted and unappreciated, and for this I apologize. It was an oversight and lack of communication, not our intention, and we love what FairPlay entertainment does and stands for.

I know that it’s important to hold oneself accountable when the ball is dropped - and I hope that they can be understanding and forgive the confusion I caused by my lack of attentiveness. I would love to work together again. Thank you so much for being a part of GGD2022, you rock

Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts, for being good sports and enduring the challenges of not only the weather, but the actual *venue* with us.
We sincerely mean it when we say the problems that arised were largely due to no lack of effort on our parts, we planned best we could and bent over backwards to problem solve... but the lack of accomodations/respect we'd hope to recieve as guests and paying patrons was not.what we expected as hosts.
We were looking extra forward to this year because it seemed promising, was our most intentionally thoughtfully organized year of planning, and yet...none of that translated, tho all of it reflects directly upon us.
We did everything in our power to create and maintain a safe and fun space for our community that was inclusive to our attendees. We booked hard working but smaller local acts we thought deserved a spotlight as well as poc, bipoc, q***r, and women lead bands because of their talent and also community of all sorts is important to us. We intend to stay that way.
The bands and vendors we booked, we did so for non selfish reasons. We want to help lift others up vs see them continously knocked down.
I am proud of our teams, at the very least, for all the continuous problem solving we had to do leading up to the festival, as well as on site the entire weekend. We poured our hearts, souls, mental and emotional energies, and endless hours of time on this. We can only hope we cultivated a great community, and hopefully a memorable experience for you all this past weekend. Though our vision was one of a much more welcoming and smooth/fun experience for everyone, and maybe a little less wet and stormy of one as well, we still did the best we could with can do attitudes and powered thru.
Thanks again for braving the elements and challenges with us together. We appreciate and love all of you. Good game, folks.
