Transportation Camp FLEW by last week! We visited the and had the best tour with our new friend: Say-Say! Shoutout to all the kids for being so well behaved (we got a number of compliments from strangers!), to our instructors for keeping us all together, and to Porsha for organizing such a fun field-trip for us!

🎵 MUSIC LESSON 🎵 The Accordion!
The Accordion is a super unique, fun, portable instrument! You may see our friend, Mary, at Nightingale Fam rocking out with this one! The accordion is what’s called a “free-reed aerophone” as expanding and contracting the bellows (the middle part) shoots air over brass or steel reeds inside. The accordion is thought to date back to Germany in the 1820s and became wildly popular in European music, then traveling to the Americas with immigration. You’ll hear the accordion in polka, zydeco, jazz, and even classical music.

It’s Music Monday! Let’s talk about one of the musical instruments you may see at Pixie Music: a KALIMBA!

- The “kalimba” is a western version of the African instrument the “m’bala”
- The body is usually made from wood and the keys are made from metal.
- Kalimbas can be different shapes and sizes
- Held with two hands and the keys are played with the thumbs
