The Fete team is still bathing in the afterglow of last week’s State Dinner, celebrating the 70th anniversary of the American and Republic of Korea Alliance.

As a Korean immigrant who is living the American Dream, collaborating with Dr. Biden and the White House was the true dream – especially with my mother in attendance.

Thank you to all our partners and collaborators who made it a memorable success. Myself and the Fete team are deeply grateful for the opportunity to have participated in this moment in time.

The overall dining experience was inspired by the red and blue taegeuk circle in the center of the Korean flag. Blue tones served as the base color of tables and chairs, with red accents derived from florals and other decor elements.

The tables featured small details to celebrate Korean heritage, including ceramic vases that resembled Korean moon jars and glass cylinders with Hanji paper finish filled with candles. Custom made chair covers with designs representing traditional sumukhwa (Korean ink brush painting) were integrated with butterflies and cranes, animals that hold significant meaning in Korean culture.

Peonies, orchids and cherry blossoms were featured prominently throughout the tables, each representing a prominent element of Korean culture. Peonies are known as the King of Flowers and symbolize prosperity; orchids have historically been one of the most highly regarded flowers, often the subject of literature and art; and cherry blossoms remind us of spring, symbolizing renewal, purity and beauty.

The dining room backdrop design was inspired by Dancheong, a Korean traditional decorative coloring in architecture, particularly old temples.

We were ecstatic to support this year’s State Dinner guests celebrating the Republic of Korea.

Guests entered through the Booksellers Hall, with custom backdrops featuring murals that united symbols from each country, including a portrait of mountains and stream, two dominant and important motifs of the Korean landscape.

Backdrops included national animals such as the bald eagle and bison from the United States and the magpie and tiger from the Republic of Korea. The backdrop also celebrated national flowers from each country (the rose for the U.S. and the mugunghwa for the Republic of Korea).

The sky hosted a waning crescent moon, the moon phase on the night of April 26, to celebrate the lunar calendar. And stars were peppered across the sky to represent the American flag.

It is an incredible honor to have been asked back to collaborate with the First Lady and the White House to design last night’s State Dinner, celebrating the Republic of Korea. As a Korean immigrant, I am privileged to experience this moment in my career and life.

Bringing this night to life was rewarding in so many ways as we were able to integrate thoughtful details from both American and Korean cultures, celebrating the 70th anniversary of the American and Republic of Korea Alliance. As a Korean immigrant who has lived the American Dream and is deeply patriotic, this State Dinner could not have been more personal to me as a creative and designer.

Thank you to Dr. Biden, and Social Secretary Carlos Elizondo and his team, for this inspirational collaboration and opportunity.

Everyone knew DJ Phresh was our favorite DJ, but he was also our favorite person. Not only did he have an extraordinary talent but had the biggest heart. He had a unique talent of bringing all types of people from all walks of life to the dance floor and keeping them dancing. We will miss you Phresh 🤍🎶 God gave us this gorgeous day for a beautiful service honoring and celebrating his life. 5.6.81-3.12.23♾️

“Chic, moody, and romantic” were common words Brianna used while describing her wedding. A powerhouse, decisive in her steps as the CEO and President of her family business, the bride is also playful and deeply thoughtful. She envisioned a hyper-personalized, experiential seating arrangement, which our team took it a step further. As a surprise, each guest received a custom sketch to guide them to their seat.

The crowd amassed outside the Siasconset Church in Nantucket was laser focused on one sight: a breathtaking bride linking arms with her father as they made their way from a classic car down the aisle. That’s when a ripple of applause, then thunderous cheers, swept through the audience of locals. Among strangers, even, what’s not to love about true love?

We view every es**rt display wall as an experience. It’s the first impression guests have once they arrive to cocktail hour. Why not make it fun and engaging?

In Sabrina and Glenn’s case, an immersive floor-to-ceiling, reflective seating arrangement included nods to pop graffiti art. As guests searched for their names and tables, they came across some of the coolest works of street art… before a night of partying in a museum.
