The art dealer Peter Freeman and his wife, the art conservator Lluïsa Sàrries Zgonc, took cues from their wide-ranging collection when designing their Manhattan apartment.

When renovating the place — which occupies the entire fourth floor of a marble-clad, Italianate-style former warehouse — the architect eliminated a coat closet and moved an electrical panel to create two walls big enough for sizable paintings. The playfulness of the couple’s art is also reflected in their loft’s furniture: In the primary bedroom sits one of the Dutch designer Tejo Remy’s bureaus, each of which is a jumble of mismatched boxes and drawers held together by a single strap. The piece, constructed in 2021, is juxtaposed with the much older work that hangs beside it: a 1747 painting with an illusionistic rendering of a broken pane in the frame — referencing, Freeman (says, the practice of putting art behind glass, which was relatively new in the 18th century.

Please join us.   In the month of June, will screen a 70's film every other Wednesday. Each film will be introduced by writer and film critic, Carlos Valladares.
is a writer, critic, film curator, programmer, and video essayist from South Central Los Angeles, California. . He began his PhD in History of Art and Film & Media Studies at Yale University in fall 2019; he received his master's from Yale in December 2021and has written for the San Francisco Chronicle, Film Comment, MUBI, the Criterion Collection, Frieze, and Gagosian Quarterly; for the last of these, he writes a regular column on the world of film. . He is currently drafting several films, including a docufiction on the life of fashion photographer and director Jerry Schatzberg.
