Intimate Voices Chamber Concerts

Intimate Voices Chamber Concerts New York's finest chamber musicians play music in the ideal setting, up close and very personal.

“Intimate Voices” is an opportunity for audiences of all ages to experience the immediacy and intensity that is at the heart of chamber music. The warmth and excellent acoustics of the sanctuary at the Conservative Synagogue Adath Israel of Riverdale (CSAIR) offer the ideal setting for chamber music. The musicians participating bring a wealth of concert experience in venues all over the globe to t

his lovely space in the heart of Riverdale. And they reach out to the broader community with events for special-needs children and area nursing/rehab center residents. We are honored tohave have the support of a grant from NewYork-Presbyterian/Allen Hospital for four straight seasons, and the continued strong support from the entire community makes our programs possible. At the Saturday evening series concerts, the musicians introduce the selections in an relaxed and informal atmosphere, and refreshments before the music and during intermission, as well as a reception with the musicians following, add to the intimacy. The Sunday afternoon free Family Program in a sensory-friendly format, feature selections of great chamber music in a lively informal program that actively involves the audience in exploring the music, and engages the whole family. This chance for all families to really get close to great music, and to the musicians playing it, can inspire children’s enjoyment and participation in music-making of all kinds for years to come. We also share our music with children and their families at an area special-needs preschool, and with people who are not able to come to our home at CSAIR, including wonderful audiences at the James J. Peters VA Medical Center in the Bronx and other area nursing homes and rehab facilities. We look forward to seeing you at CSAIR and sharing our "intimate voices" with you in Riverdale!

Who knew that Sibelius was an avid player of chamber music and had desperately wanted to be a virtuoso violinist, only giving up that dream in his 20s??
His first compositions, before his big breakthrough as a composer at age 27 with his massive symphonic work "Kullervo", were mostly chamber music works, some perhaps written to play with his violin
students! He destroyed most of these early works, and the remainder were only recovered after the Sibelius family donated his papers to Helsinki University in 1982.
Hear his lovely short duo for violin and viola in our January 13th concert.
