King of the Mountain Events King of the Mountain Events is the place for you to keep up with and participate in great events

In 2001 our race director was asked to volunteer at the 1st High Rock by New York Adventure Racing Association founder Chris Ballou. He was hooked and has been apart of the trail/adventure racing communities ever since. Our first attempt at Race Directing was the Saddle and Paddle Adventure race at Blue Marsh Lake Pa. Since than we have founded numerous events including, The Cold Feat, The Fall

Flat, The Staten Island Trail Festival, The Rockaway Beach Challenge, The Raritan Bay Challenge, The 2 if by land 1 if by sea, The Hot as Blazes Trail Run and in 2014 will be brining you Many more new Challenges. We have tons of expierence and knowledge and have worked with some of the biggest races in the country and learned from the Best Race Directors out there. including the Balance Bar 24 hour series, Staten Island Super Spartan and most recently for the Civilian Military Combine Urban Assault. This year will be the 10th year we have directed NYC's longest running adventure run/obstacle race the High Rock Challenge.

Mark’s son Liam Vogt posted this on his page earlier this evening.

Our hearts go out to Mark’s Family and friends. Rest in Peace brother, you will be missed.

“It is with a heavy heart that I have to announce my dad passed away peacefully earlier today. These past few days have really shown me how loved he was and how many people really knew him. My dad lived enough for two lifetimes and he loved each day which I will forever be grateful for ❤️”

What a tremendous loss for the running community and to all who had the pleasure of knowing Mark. 🙏

Our thoughts and prayers are with our long time supporter and friend Mark Vogt. Get well soon brother.

My Birthday -
More than two decades of advocacy and volunteerism for the parks on Staten Island providing events and fund raisers leading trail work days providing 10’s of thousands of hours of labor on the trails and only received money once from Andrew Lanza who always supported us, and never asked for money again form the city/state as we do what we do because we love our open spaces. Sadly the Parks Department has decided without any conversations with us to take away what we have created. After spending the last month reaching out to local politicians about this absolutely unnecessary and unprovoked attack we have received next to zero feedback. We are looking for support. We hear crickets we need statements we get excuses. For my birthday I ask you all to call your local NY politicians and let them know you support us. We will not sit back and have them ruin a good thing for Staten and a good thing for all of the NYC. They have mistaken our silence for weakness and have taken our work for granted. Please reach out today!

1st Annual FreshKills Challenge
Race and Obstacle Course
April 30, 2023

The rain held out for the most of the race. Drizzle and mist made for a damp and cool day but it didn't lessen the warmth our our racers, volunteers and onlookers.

Runners paired up, in teams of 2-4 and ran across 10 kilometers of trail and road while navigating obstacles. They were met with climbs, crawls, 40 lb pail carrying, flipping tires and jumping rope. The team work witnessed was amazing, as runners helped each other complete this tough course.

NYPD, FDNY and Private EMS were on standby to ensure safety of our runners, but the day went without incident.

The park is really coming together and all runners had a glimpse of what may be one of New Yorks city's largest parks, rivaling that of iconic CENTRAL PARK.

Congratulations to all runners! Thank you to all staff and volunteers for their dedication in making this race a great success.

Congratulations to all participants of today's 10k trail run through Staten Island, New York's most anticipated park of the city, Fresh Kills Park!

Today's runners had an amazing chance to visit and navigate through all of its beauty.

Runners were challenged by 12 obstacles, testing their Mental / Physical strength and endurance .

Teams of 2-4 worked together to complete the tasks at hand.

Volunteers were on standby to not only guide but encourage the runners at many legs of the run.

Thank you to NYPD, FDNY, NYC Dept. of Sanitation, NYC Parks Dept., Fresh kills Park and all of today’s volunteers
