2024 Wrapped: Music School edition ✨
From celebrating the late Maestro German Diez’s 100th birthday and inaugurating Dr. Sara Davis Buechner as our new Piano Chair, to presenting the 10 year of our #Uncharted Concert Series & Artist Residency- it’s been a year to remember! We proudly produced over 140 concerts, served more than 750 students, and provided free access to rehearsal space to hundreds of local musicians. We can’t wait to continue this mission-driven work into 2025 and beyond!

Here at @Greenwich House, music is one of our favorite ways to spread holiday cheer! 🎵 🎉 Violin duo and GHMS artists-in-residence @MiolinaNYC performed a free concert for members of Greenwich House's Older Adults Center on the Square last week. Shown here, the duo played Christmas classics, as well as music for Hanukkah and Kwanzaa and beautiful duet arrangements of Mozart’s The Magic Flute. Thanks to Miolina and everyone who attended!
Dr. Sara Davis Buechner is in the building! We were thrilled to host faculty, students, community and board members last week for Dr. Buechner's official welcome concert. Her virtuosic playing, vivacious energy, and light-hearted humor left us speechless and beaming with warmth and joy. Dr. Buechner has joined GHMS as the inaugural German Diez Memorial Piano Chair, leading our piano department as well as teaching private lessons and conducting a monthly masterclass. Blurring the boundaries between sound art and chamber music, this ensemble utilizes found sounds, recorded thought, and conversational improvisation to forge a stunning experimental soundscape.

Tomorrow night, we're hosting a special celebration of Maestro German Diez on what would’ve been his 100th birthday (1924 – 2024)! Maestro Diez served as our beloved piano chairperson for over 50 years. This show will feature performances from German’s former students, peers, and current GHMS faculty including Erika Nickrenz, Antoine Zemor, Jeni Slotchiver, Bennett Lerner, Bruce Wolosoff, and more.

Coming up in two weeks, Greenwich House Music School’s premiere jazz clarinet ensemble will honor Howard Johnson’s groundbreaking tuba music. The show will also highlight music from the last decade of jazz clarinet concerts including compositions by Joseph Daley, James Jabbo Ware, Todd Marcus, Horace Silver, Thelonious Monk, Julius Hemphill, and more! This concert is presented in memory of James Jabbo Ware.
